F75 and 6000 XL Pro

New member
I buried a Silver Quarter about a week ago at 12". Tommorrow I'm taking my F75 and the XL Pro out and will see what both will do.
I plan on recording the Audio response from the planted Quarter for
each machine and let everyone hear the difference. I did a little test
tonight and to be honest the XL Pro surprised me completely. More later.

Also! I figure both machines will fair better with targets that have
been in the ground longer, but I'm using this test as an example of
how each detector responds to a Deep Target. I never new how far down
12" was untill I dug this hole.....I'm off tommorrow to Radio Shack
to purchase a Digital Voice Recorder to start the project with.

The XL PRO is one of White's all times best.
You know a good detector when it will hold its own with the top of the line new detector.( And beat a lot of them)

Hi Doug,

I have fond memories with the 6000 Di-Pro SL, It found me a ton of old goodies and a true work horse in it's day.

I would still use one today if the recovery speed was a bit faster, In areas of allot of iron or trash the recovery speed is not fast enough at least for my needs.

The F-75 will surpass the Whites SL & XL on separation and depth, Of course each have an edge over the other.

best of luck in your very interesting quest!..loking forward to hearing about the results!..i'm cheering for the "old" girl?

I wasn't able to do the Audio test today but will as soon as possible.
I beleive it when everyone said the XL Pro is one of the best Analog
TID Detectors ever made and deffinatly has it's own benefits as far as performance and features is concerned. I was able to pick up the 12" Silver Quarter with the standard 9.5 coil in the all-metal with a Loud Clear Sound. In the discriminate mode I was able
to pick up the Quarter Intermittently, as there was some Iron close by and I was catching it at the end of my sweep and the larger coil was picking up both, causing the TID meter to fluctuate between Iron in one direction and penny on up on the scale in the opposite direction. The Gain was set at Max even with the Big Coil and the Hot-Rock reject was set to the OFF Position and the disc to ground reject. If you set the hot rock to the Preset On
Position or the disc. to iron or just above iron,it would discriminate out the Quarter. This was an "Eye Opener" for me. What Really surprised me was that The XL Pro will pick
up the same Quarter easily in the All-Metal Mode and Fairly consistently in the Disc. with the 5.3 Coil attached to the Pro. I had the Gain set at Maximun and the discrimination set at Ground Reject with the Hot rock in the off position. If I set the Disc. to Iron or set the Hot Rock Reject to "On" I would loose the quarter.I'm deffinately going to get the XL out more and give it more time than I have. The All-Metal is as deep or close to the F75 (this requires further investigation on deeper targets) and in my opinion the XL's A-M mode is easier to use,but this could be that I'm more familiar with this type of detector and haven't used the All Metal that much on the F75.Its easier to get a Stable threshold on the XL compared to the F75. Where the F75 Kicks the XL is in the Discriminate Mode with it's depth and target separation (as Suspected), but if I was using the XL Pro I would use the SAT Mode as you can go slow and still separate the good Targets with the smaller coil. I was only able to pick up the 12" freshly Buried Quarter in the F75's Je Disc Mode. Even with the sensitivity set at 30 (out of 99) the F75 was able to pick up the quarter easily at the 12" depth,
but It I.D. the Quarter at the number 12 Consistently on the TID scale which is in the iron range. I had the discrimination on the F75 set to 7 and Fast Grab Ground Balance was 62. The XL Pro would read the quarter Iron in one direction and up to penny on up in the opposite direction telling you to investigate the target further at different angles which is what I did and the little 5.3 coil hit that quarter good enough to cause further investigation. My Exact words were WOOW!!! The conditions for the test were excellent as we had a fair amount of rain and the electrical interfearance was nill to none that day as I could run the gain on the XL Pro at Maximum, even with the Big Coil.I doubt I would get the same results in different conditions. One thing for shure though, is my detector arsenal will always have an XL Pro in it.

I can't wait to get mine out in the field. I've been holding off because I like it so much that I've got an XL-1 Sunray probe on the way. When I head out to the field for an actual hunt...I'm going to be armed and ready for some serious coinshooting! Thanks for this post. I'm going to play around over that pesky 8" dime in my backyard with a lower disc setting like you did and see what happens.

Hi Bryce
Turn the Hot Rock reject off and check it out too. I like to pinpoint the target and while the coil is on the ground I switch back to discriminate and give it quick short sweeps over the target, this seems to work well for me. Try Ground balancing the XL pro in the lowest discrimination setting and go from there. Always recheck you G.B setting by lowering the coil to the ground to make shure you don't loose your threshold, if you do do it over. Sometimes I just sweep the coil over clean ground in the tracking mode 10-12 times and then lock in the GB and check for Good threshold in all metal. Also
get the Book "Taking a closer look at metal detector discrimination"
The only book you will need for the Pro besides the Manual.

The 3" and the 8". Never used the 9.5" as I hunt the trash and Iron all the time. The sat. Mode works great and seperates even better as you can go slow to do the seperating. I was wondering if I was reading it right, you said you were getting the 12" quarter with a better ID then the F75. Also did I understand you to mean you were getting the 12" qt. with the 5.3" and the 9.5" in the GEB SAT mode right along with the GEB NORM Mode also. I think I got it in the right contex. If not just how did it hunt in the GEB SAT. Mode. Did you G/B in the GEB Norm. lock it and then change to the GEB SAT Mode??? Thanks just wondering what you were getting in the SAT Mode as this all I hunt in. Don't even like the Dis. mode you lose to much depth and have to swing to fast for you the to get the depth. My 6000XLPRO is never going to leave the Arisinal, Never. :clapping: Thanks again Bud, Jerry aka Tinfoil.

if i read this correctly, you say you hit the quarter at that depth with the 5.3 coil on board, and got enough info from the meter to investigate further?..that is amazing!..especially in a "new" ground matrix!..nasty (s.o.b)..ain't it?..i'll bet the ranch it will "hit"
anything in the field the f-75 will hit in an older ground matrix scenario!..you are right keep it in (s.a.t.) mode, and work slow, and she will get her share!..just an outstanding piece of equipment!

I was wondering if I was reading it right, you said you were getting the 12" quarter with a better ID then the F75

Jerry,
I went out today to Double and triple check my results and must say
YES!, I got a better I.D. on the 12" Qtr. with the XL Pro than the F75. The F75 would have no trouble detecting the Qtr. no matter what
direction I scanned it from. The only problem I saw was that the F75
would only I.D the 12" Qtr. at 12 on the display no matter what angle I approached it from.Iron reads from 0-15 on the F75 and I had the Discrimination set at 7. I had a Iron target that was twelve inches to the left of the quarter that also read in the Iron range of the F75, just as the Quarter did. The XL Pro would ID this Iron target on the audio by rejecting it.The meter also would only register in the Iron range no matter what angle I would approach it from.
The 5.3 coil had no problem picking up the 12" quarter in the discriminate mode from the 11am position to the 5pm position and reverse, but the audio would "break or Clip from any other angle.

Did you G/B in the GEB Norm. lock it and then change to the GEB SAT Mode???
I GEB with the mode switch set to Disc. and held the toggle in,then I finished and locked the GEB and check the threshold in the GEB Normal Mode.

Thanks just wondering what you were getting in the SAT Mode as this all I hunt in The Sat Mode worked just fine and had no trouble at all picking up the 12" quarter. When I tried the Geb Normal mode I found I could lift the coil 3-4 inches off the ground and still here the change of threshold. The GEB sat is just as sensitive but only motion based as you know. I had the setting of the XL PRO as follows detector with 5.3 with signal Balance at maximun with the Discrimination set between Salt & Nails and the the Hot Rock Reject
was set at except. I did notice when I pinpointed the 12" qtr with the coil snug against the ground that the depth meter would read 6".

In a nutshell I thought the All-Metal was easier to use and control on the XL Pro and that I would have dismissed the 12" quarter as being Iron with the F75 because of the consistent 12 on the I.D. with the confidence meter reading all but one bar from the top, showing that it was certain it was an Iron target. The meter on the XL Pro would indicate penny to Dollar on the Qtr. when I would sweep the coil from the 11-5,5-11 position causing me to further investigate it. I feel if I was using the F75 In the discriminate mode I would have ignored the reading because of the Consistent Iron reading along with the high
cofidence meter results.

SO!! what it's worth the XL Pro to me is a HEAVY WEIGHT contender for
deep silver, No Doubt about it...

I beleive the only advantage the F75 has over other detectors is it's ability to Almost! Simultaneously give two different tones over a target area that has Iron and silver in the same hole. I don't think the depth is as great of an issue as compared to the Separation the F75 will give in the Discriminate mode in well worked places that have
good targets in the same hole (or Close To It) with the Iron targets

The F-75 will surpass the Whites SL & XL on separation and depth

Paul
the F75 will surpass the XL Pro in separation when used in the discriminate mode where "Good & bad" targets are in the same hole for instance, somewhat like a Compass Scanner. But in my opinion the XL PRO is easier to use in the all-metal mode and I would say just as deep as the F75.The SAT Mode on the XL Pro is Better also!

Trying to pick and separate among the good targets and the iron targets, Geb Sat or GEB Norm I like the Geb Sat and would like to know your reasons why you use what you do. I just have more trouble with the Norm then the Sat and I prefer the SAT Mode. Just wondering which one you like to use. I know I need to work on the Norm mode more but just like that Sat. Been using the 3",5.3" and 8" and have not even used the 9.5". I have not gotten my F75 yet but it is on the way. Ronnie's died on me on final test. I put the coil in the salt water on that Black sand, coke, rust, and black coke cinder beach and the coil lasted about a minute in the salt water and the machine started to overload and just went berserk. Never worked after that. It would not hold a memory when you turned the machine off and then back on. I sent the machine to FT and told them about the Memory and the coil and said under no circumstances send Ronnie back that machine with anything other then a new coil and fix the memory. Even told them they need to Black epoxy the coils like M/L, Tesoro and Troy shadow detectors are done. Well they gave him a new coil and did not do a damn thing about the memory and now it has to go back again. That is just a bunch of crap if you ask me. I wrote a long one pager for them to, explaining every thing in detail about what happens to the memory and where the coil was leaking. You can bet I will seal the hell out of my coil when I get my new F75. I would suggest you do the same. You can bet I will be testing the F75 against my 6000XLPRO and will let you know what I find. The F75 did beat every single Freq. machine I had with me on that beach including the X70 which I was very disappointed it and I tried every trick in the book and it just would not work. This beach also had a 1/16" flat pieces of iron pieces 1/4 to 1" long and drove every Single freq. machine I had over there with me crazy along with the black sand ground flutter I would get. Only the F 75 worked great in all metal and the all metal ID was decent to. It got as much depth as my SE and Excal with 10" coils. In the all metal mode on the bad small rust pieces it would make a Baaaaa tone on the smaller pieces and a Badaaa tone on the larger pieces and everything else was a Zip Zip. Of the single freq machines the other machine that worked halfway good was of coarse the 6000XLPRO. OK just wanted to know which mode you like in the iron trash and why you like that mode. Later bud Jerry aka Tinfoil

Which mode do you prefer using the 5.3 or the 3" coil when you are dead in the iron trash Trying to pick and separate among the good targets and the iron targets,

Jerry
I must confess I have been using the F75 mostly. I have
just received a 3.5 snooper coil for the XL Pro and will give it a Try
as soon as I get a chance to get out.

I like the Geb Sat and would like to know your reasons why you use what you do

Jerry, When It comes to the ALL-METAL mode I prefer the SAT Mode as
it is by design more stable and coin size objects are easy to hear.
I still use the discriminate mode first when hunting and use the SAT
Mode last to get the rest that the discriminate mode was unable to see. This type of hunting requires me to make small grids so I completely cover the area from all directions. The GEB Normal modes comes in handy though when your try to detune to see multiple targets.

yes!..that is true!..i believe the f-75 processes targets much faster than the pro,and probably alot of other detectors as well!.in defense of the pro,it is a 4 pole,or 4 filter design, and this circuit design is known to get better depth than a 2 pole,or 2 filter designed circuit.i do not know WHAT design the f-75 is,however i suspect a 2 pole designed circuit with digital signal processing!..in this configuration, the f-75 SHOULD be a faster recovering circuit, because it IS designed specifically for that purpose, and also to deliver outstanding depth as well!the pro,on the other hand, was NEVER designed to be a fast recovery detector because of the 4 pole design, which WAS designed to produce outstanding depth in a variety of ground conditions!.THE DEAL BREAKER with the pro is the 5.3 BULLSEYE,OR BLACK MAX COIL!..using this coil, along with the wonderful (s.a.t) mode really just about evens the playing field, because in effect, using THIS coil with the pro's 4-pole circuit design, produces
the SEPARATION,AND the DEPTH required to hunt any where an f-75 can hunt,AND hunt effectively with the "dead nuts" accurate analog meter!

In the right soil the TR mode will even do better than any 2 filter motion machine. But most soil has alot of minerials and hinder the depth but with the sig.bal you can set it low and go right in the junk.I use the TR alot in places that are covered with junk.

Other things have kept me out of the loop for a few months but as soon as I can get the results I will post them.
