F75 AA batteries loose in compartment

ziphius

New member
Hey gang, new F75 arrived yesterday and there is some 'play' in the battery compartment so that battery contact is made intermittently, causing machine to shut down. I think it is just a matter of the springs being too compressed (even though they are new). I was thinking of slightly stretching the springs (gently) to reduce this play. Anyone else had this problem or have opinions? - Jim

I did have a little trouble with mine not wanting to stay in. The first one you put in, but when I put the other one in I just slap the door on it and have not had any problem with it.

You didnt peel the foam out of the battery compartment did you? It is a trick to get the batterys in right, once done you can tap or hot ot with the palm of your hand and have no problems.

No, I didn't mess with the foam in the battery compartment. The two 'exposed' or top batteries are the ones giving me fits. They are ok until I snap the plastic cover shut, after which, contact becomes intermittent. I'm willing to bet it is not a common problem, otherwise Fisher would have remedied it. Maybe my AA's are a millimeter shorter than most others, or something strange.

Do you have foam on the plastic cover?

Thats odd because my batterys are snug in mine. What type are you useing? BTW i dont have the upgrade in mine yet so thar rules that out.

EZ,

I've tried a couple of different AA brands in here with the same result. I just found a link at thetreasuredepot.com that mentions my problem, so perhaps I don't have the 'upgrade'. But, I purchased the machine last week....I think I can resolve the problem on my own by adding additional foam (or duct tape!) to the inside of the battery cover. That should make things snug. I'd love to have things work right for $900.

Zip i hear ya! 99% of the problems wasnt weak springs but people tearing the foam out or not seating the batterys in right. Just now pulling mine out and putting them back in. When all 4 are in place and you start to close the cover, do you feel the foam pushing on the batterys untill it snaps? Or does it close loose? Putting the two tabs on the bottom of the door in first then snaping in the top.

Your door looks like this?

And your batterys in the machine look like this?

Here is how I do it with no problem. Put battery bottom end first
by making sure bottom of battery is directly on top of spring , kinda going in at a 30 degree angle or so.., push top firmly in..... mine all stay in place...repeat 3 more times...Richard

Thanks EZ Rider and everyone else. Yup, same door setup. I've remedied the situation through a combination of careful spring alignment and not pressing the door shut as firmly, just gently clicking it into place. Haven't had any issues in 5 hours of hunting. By the way, this machine is fast, goes deep, and I love the all-metal mode, while still being able to read target IDs. This will definitely be my go-to machine. - Jim
