F75 A Good Investment?

USATC

New member
Thank you Mr. Bill for your earlier help. I looked up non-underwater metal detectors and the best reviews I found were for the Fisher F 75. Would this be a worthwhile investment if I am looking for one that can be used on the beach or land, as well as nuggets if I ever had the chance? Also, I see that this is water resistant, could I use this detector in the surf?

Thank you

A good investment? That's awful hard to say. A better investment than, say, a surfboard or a radio controled airplane. Not as good an investment as a lawnmower or a set of golf clubs, I guess.

If you enjoy metal detecting as a hobby the F-75 is a good investment. Mine may take 10 years to pay for itself (especially since I only cash in the clad) but it provides hours of entertainment and some exercise. If i had to work hard at it so it would pay back well it wouldn't be fun or a hobby. It would be work.

As Charlie alluded to, few of us buy detectors as an investment tool, if that is actually what you ment, but for pursuing what can be an interesting and very exciting hobby. The F75 will work for the three things you mentioned in your post, but it truly does excell as a land machine for coins, jewelry and relics. Of which, all it takes is that one good find to recoup your initial investment. HH jim tn

I'm sorry I wasnt more specific, but I appreciate everyone's patience. I'm looking for a good investment in a metal detector as in one that is worth the money as opposed to one that I will buy because its a "good price", but may be outdated. I'd rather spend a little more and get a better quality detector so if the chance arose it would find more/better quality items when compared to a less expensive model. But how does the detector work in the beach? I wouldn't try to take it all the way in the water but being water resistant it can go over the actual end piece? Being along the florida coast I would like it to be holding up a little. If I can use it in the surf that would be a major plus. I tried looking for info on various places selling it but I didn't find this info. Again, thank you for everyone's patience and assistance.

If you are looking for a beach detector, the best place to ask is on the Beach & Water forum. They have a great deal of experience with what detectors work best on beaches since that is their specialty. Collectively they will use a few models that work best and are current models.

Unless you are actively prospecting, it would be a stretch to call a MD an investment...

But that's certainly what I tell my wife each time I buy one.:spin:

All the better if I'm able to find a ring for her quickly!

I'd definitely have reservations about taking a brand new hi-dollar F-75 into the surf around here!

Why not purchase a used 1280-X for the wet work?

1280X is primarily a freshwater detector. A multi-freq like a CZ, Excal, or a PI are the most frequently used for the saltwater beaches.

The new F75 is like buying a new car and driving off the lot there is depreciation. On the other hand a used CZ or Sovereign will work better on the beach with little or no drop in value maybe even increase in value if you got a good deal.

Perhaps Barnacle is correct, yet a 1280-X may be purchased used, in good working order for $400, most the time.
I'd sooner keep a less expensive 2nd machine for periodic water use than risk dumping a nice F75 in the soup!
