F70 SL mode

Is anyone making use of this mode? What does it do? Is it a hybrid of All Metal and Disc?

All I know is what little bit of info the manual gives.

If it's noisy as stated in the manual then my assumption is that there is a bit of digital signal processing going on that is perhaps tied in with some sort of automatic threshold control. Could be just the ticket for those that want better depth along with some TID capability without resorting to auto tune all metal.

This is supposed to be it's long suit. Most consider it best for the relic fields and woods, as it is more susceptible to ground interference. It also is affected by how much mineralization you have and how fast it changes on site.
On a clean, low mineralized site, it sounds like a useful tool. That is just the sort of soil we have here in SC and I hope to try it out this week.

My understanding is that it goes into a slower response "mode". It's for less trashy areas that don't require a fast response. And, according to the manual is more sensitive on deep targets. I haven't worked with it, as yet. I only recently recieved my F 70 and as luck would have it, the weather has been brutally cold of late.

keep on diggin'

Thanks for the reply. I don't mind a little noise as long as the good signals come through.

It's a slow circuit reset. (Slowing up the SAT speed.) The slower the reset, the longer the circuit looks before re-setting. One should slow down their sweep speed to help.

Hi Bill,

I understand what you are saying. That would account for more ground noise and also the weaker signals not being tuned out by a fast SAT.

Thanks

Another forum member that really knows the F70 reported that using SL mode made the numbers less jumpy and the tones more clear.

With they ability they have now days to do so much in software I really feel that there has to be much more going on with the SL mode than a simple change in the SAT speed. Threshold levels adjusted to allow weaker signals to come through and ground noise better compensated for ect ect ect. I really don't care if a detector is noisy as long as the good signals rise through the noise threshold.
