F70 Question

I just received my F70 back from Fisher from it's second trip there. I set up program #1 and #2 as follows:
Prog. #1 Speed=SL Disc.=0 Sens.=60 Thresh.=0 Tones=3H
Prog. #2 Speed=De Disc.=0 Sens.=75 Thresh.=-3 Tones=3H

Why does my notch read "1" and there is a slash \ through Iron? Is it supposed to read this way in both setups?
Help!!! Dave.

Hi Dave,

yes, this is how mine read too with zero notch.

How is your machine since getting it back? Any word on what was wrong and what was done to fix it?

I dont think there is anyway to predict or commit to using any settings before taking any unit into the field to detect. I would suggest low settings first to get a feel of the unit and gradually bump the values up as long as it is stable.

Try using the default settings until you get used to it in the field. The SL ,zero disc and zero threshold could possibly make it a tad noisier than you need while getting used to it again. I have fallen into the groove of using the single tone over the others, you may want to try that also.

Looking forward to hearing your results.

Tony

Certainly Tony knows detectors and offers some good advice but I might add running at zero disc. on any detector makes it noisy and most are having problems with EMI as it is and certainly expect to pick up every speck of iron adding to most more aggravation so do try the default settings as even Charles Garrett certainly one of the pioneers of the hobby advises one to use this way many hours before experimenting with settings on his units. As far as including settings in your post certainly is not needed as with mineralization changes all over the U.S. and foreign areas also what works for you in Pa. certainly may not work for a forum member in another state. It appears you are experimenting with a CZ3D and F70 which are different animals at best and would concentrate with one or the other lest you really become confused. In any case whatever works and surely owning both Fisher models gives you the opportunity to excell in the hobby.

Hello Dan. The only reason I included my settings was to let other F70 users know what was happening while using them. I realize
that my settings won't work in other mineralized situations. I just wanted to know why "iron" was notched out at "0" discrimination.
Dan, the temperature is getting lower each day. I wonder how many days we have left here in the north east to hunt. My hands
were pretty cold on saturday. Good hunting Dan. Dave.
