F70 Programs

Hi! I just bought the F70 and was wondering if anyone would offer some settings that I can use for coin hunting. I mostly do city parks with quite a bit of trash, but I occasionally do cleaner fields. I went out to the wood chips last night and was very impressed with it's performance. I own an etrac, and don't expect the same performance out of a single frequency machine, but was wondering if anyone had a good program they would be willing to share. Thanks to all that take the time to respond

Disc. at 21, set notch at 41, set threshold as high as you can before it gets jumpy (-3 up to 0, or higher, if possible), Sens as high as you can go. I run it between 85 and 90 with not much problem. Ground balance and go. I can hit a dime at 8" depth with no problem in my ground, which is about average in mineralization. The F 70 is a "sleeper". Its big brother, the F 75 gets all the attention, but the F 70 with a 11" DD coil can keep up with the F 75, depthwise. Not as many bells and whistles, but it will get the job done.

Thanks Jimmyk in Missouri! I appreciate your sharing your program. I've read that the f70 goes as deep or deeper than the f75. I have know comparison and no way of knowing, but it sounds interesting

This is an excellent coin set up jimmy. I see where it would be useful.

I do things a little differently, myself. Coins are, honestly, dead easy to ID. They are what these machines are created for mostly, and cleanly give themselves away with unique VDI numbers. Add tones to that and you can hardly miss them.

So, I set the DISC at small foil, around 15, the tones at 3H or dP and - just listen.

I use no notch, either. If I have tones and an excellent TID suite to ID coins, why on earth would I notch out the range where the REALLY good stuff can be? I dont want to eliminate this range - I want to discern the difference between it and the others. If I am after coins, I can simply CHOOSE to dig only those items in the coin ranges.

But, no detector made today knows the difference between a pulltab or a gold ring. If there is a lot of trash, then lots of people were also there - and your odds of a decent jewelry piece go up.
You can always revert to a trash notch set up, when you get tired of tabs. But, I have several rings and other gold items that would simply be missed had I nothched them out.
Think about it - one decent gold ring, at todays prices, is worth more than a boatload of common coin.

My SENS and THRESH are pretty much handled the same as jimmy.

The F70 is also a killer diller with a small coil in trash.

I forgot to mention tones. I use 3H, as well. Sometimes I'll eliminate the notch. Like at an athletic field where there's a good potential for a lost ring. If it's just foot traffic, or mostly smaller kids, I will nothc out the pulltabs. I really like the 6" coil, as well. Good depth and is big enough to still cover some ground, but small enough to work between the trash. I've testd several gold wedding bands, and found a couple. They were all in the mid to upper 20s on the VDI readout. That's why I run at 21. I would adjust that lower if gold rings fall that low. What's the lowest number anyone has found a gold ring? Just curious.

I recall a small, 14K amethyst ring I found that was well into the foil range. Also a Scorpion zodiac pendant that was a solid low foil reading. To be honest, I never got a good reading on that. For all intents and puposes it sounded like trash.
I had no F70 for these, so do not know precise VDI values.

But, I recently found an 8.44 gr., .999 Platinum band that reads a tight 27-28 on my F70. Nickles, by contrast, come in at 33.
That band at todays spot buy price would net me $405.12.

So there is good reason to open up the low range.
