F70 Problems

My F70 runs great at the stock settings 97% of the time ........There's a few tot Lot's were the F-70 buzz's real bad........ I just change the frequency setting, and the buzzing stops

I only have a dozen hours on the F70...... so maybe the other guys know more secrets...Good luck

Rob in...... it never Rains in ca,

Only 1 season in with my F70, but quoting above, the stock setting works well a lot of the time. Try upping (lowering?) the threshhold setting into the negative numbers - you'll still get depth you need. A couple parks I hunt at are real bad for RFI/EMI, and my machine goes crazy at anything over 60 sens/-2 thresh. Don't be afraid to run at sens 50 or lower with -4 thresh. Hope this helps! Also, you might try an RFI choke, which is available at Radio Shack for a couple bucks - I have had good luck with this, helps me run higher sens. and thresh more positive than without.

Pic of the RFI choke on my F70...

I got a RFI choke for mine 6 months ago seemed to help, I can run 60-65 with -3 in some areas that i couldnt before. HH

Kascinoh,

Would you happen to have the Part / Model # of your RFI choke. I looked them up on the Radio Shack website but they didn't look like the one one your unit. Want to get exactly what you have since it seems to be working for you.
Thanks for your help.

Here is the one you are looking for. I see it says out of stock.

I have one also.
Happy Trails.....Z

Thank you for the help. Really appreciate it.
They were out of stock online @ Radio Shack. But if you do a local store check on Radio Shack's website, a buyer may be able to get one from a local store. I did.
The cost is $5.49

How easy was it to install the RFI Choke ?And what are the steps to putting the choke on your cable.I also would like thank you all for the great info on this problem,I guess I was not the only one with this problem of noise,I guess this is constant problem with the F70.I do not live by any big power lines were I should be getting this much noise out here in the sticks of New Hampshire, but the info is great that you all giving, thanks again,NH ANDY.

Application to cable is easy. Pull clasp hinge open on Ferrite Choke with fingernail. It opens like a clamshell. Close it over cable. It snaps close.

The package part # is 273-0105
On packaging it listed as Ferrite Data-Line Filter

Good Luck

Have you done any tests to see if sensitivity is slightly reduced? It just doesn't make sense to me that the manufacture wouldn't include the choke or build one in if it helped without any downside.

Hey Dave I hope that if you read this you will post your thoughts on this discussion. I have seen the idea of putting a choke on the coil wire discussed on several different manufacturer's boards besides this one and personally have always thought that it was probably more of a placebo effect than a real one.

However this suggestion keeps coming up and I have never read any comments on the idea from anyone who I consider authoritative on the matter. I can't think of anyone more suited than you.

As far as I can tell, sensitivity is not reduced. I borrowed this idea from my short wave radio receiver equipment - I have these on all my "wall-wart" power supplies, and on all the audio cables linking my receivers to my computers. They are a godsend on that equipment for reducing AC line hum, PC interference.

Again, they just reduce some RFI/EMI noise - unfortunately this isn't a "silver-bullet" cure-all, but I am pleased with what it does on my F70. Some folks have emailed me saying they have no improvement - YMMV.
