F70 Ground Balancing

DEK1

New member
I see that the F70 is advertised as having manual ground balance as well as automatic. The only method that I am aware of is pushing the "Ground Grab" button and pumping the coil up and down to balance. Am I missing something here?

I just turn on and go...rarely GG, unless I'm in a clean deep loam field, like in an outfield...I'm getting coins and stuff this way.. in certain areas its nice to manualy GG and seems to give a better depth, and possibly better pinpoint on deeper targets. I never GG on the beach, I dont know why, just never have, and move from the wet sand, surf line, and back to dry all the time. got a really deep quarter this am in the wet sand, impressively deep. I'm not sure I understand why you would not ground balance to get the best performance from the machine before you hunt. I assume that the default value of 90 would probably be wrong for most places on the average. Can you explain?

Ok...I'm a speed swinger mostly...I will slow down and ground balance if the situation and location dictate, but I'm mainly after fresh drops and shallow targets. Terra, the quarter was at least 10" down, probably more, as I was swinging away with my scoop thinking, "gotta be a car", I had a hole chopped three scoops deep, thought it was a hot wheel car since they sound pretty much the same. Theory is most targets are within 6" of the surface, and truth be told probably more like 3". so the more WORTHWHILE ground I can cover faster, and the quicker my retrieval speed, the more loot per outing...thats the theory anyway. I dont grid a beach, I run from "sign" I see in the sand to the next..It sort of works for me, just like fishing, sometimes a fellow feels like running and gunning, and sometimes a fellow just has to settle down and fish deep and slow. Both have their place and are productive depending upon the situation, right now I like to hunt areas fast and cover a lot of ground. Looking for fresh sign like cigarrette butts, bottle caps, cooler prints, seagull tracks around a feast of food, that kind of stuff..I'm sure I'm missing some stuff, but not much, I've gone over some areas pretty well to test my theory.. I'm at beaches and totlots, sports fields, sidewalk tearouts, every am leaving here anywhere between 4:30 and 5 and figure on being to work by 8 and have been on this schedule dang near daily since I got this confounded contraption last April. As far as deep old silver, entirely accidental, 3 washington q's and 1 barber, one merc, and 5 washington dimes, 3 class rings, and lotsa other loot, so I think location, coil on the ground time, and getting there is a lot more important than GG. I really would like to learn more of what this F70 can do..heck, I ran in Autotune on EVERYTHING last year and didn't even start playing with the settings until this year. Well, I sure would like somebody to say like "try this on deep silver" or what a higher or lower thresh is for, stuff like that. HH
