F70 GB Question

John(Tx)

New member
Recently while coinshooting a rodeo arena, my F70 starting acting up so I pressed the ground grab button and started to re-ground balance. The two digit number jumped up to 90 and stayed there, the machine would blare up everytime I lowered the coil to the ground. What I finally had to do was get away from the soil in the arena and GB which came down to a 47 then go back to the arena and started searching finding numerous coins. All the zinc pennies were badly corroded so I figured it was due to the salt in the horses urine and just wondered if the blaring of the machine was caused by these salts. The manual states that when lowering the coil to the ground and the sound blares up to reduce the GB setting, how do you do that with the F70? The manual also says that if the detector's internal computer is unable to GB, you will continue to hear sound and no 2 digit number will appear. Is the detector suppose to be quiet once the 2 digit numbers appear? I can still hear sound once the numbers appear just like when the 90 appeared at the rodeo arena, am I doing something wrong or did I misunderstand the instructions? Thanks for any help, I really like this machine, it's quick, light and deep. John

Hey John,

Do consider backing off on the Sens some, perhaps go way low and see what happens when you try to Ground Grab in that area. I have noticed just after a soaking rain here that the ground is difficult to balance to, unless I lower the sens some. It also makes sense (to me anyways) that if you cant GB easily, you wont be able to find things that are small or deep either.

Experience has shown that a higher than precise GB will not false or be noisy if the ground under it is a lesser value. So, if you were to simply turn the unit off and then on, you would be at a preset GB of 90. If its noisy, you could reduce the Sens. BUT if you are going to reduce the sens, reduce it to the point where the F70 can be Ground Grabbed, then up the sens a little and try again until you can no longer grab it again and then back it off as needed.

This phenomenon, only happens in very damps ground here. Maybe its happening there too.

Best of luck
Tony
