F70 first impressions

Finally got around to trying out my new F70. I took it to an area that had an old school once. Have dug silver there in the past and it wasn't very trashy so I thought it would be a good place to start. Ran it at 15 Disc, Sensitivity at 30 (Starting out) -3 threshold and 3 tones. Was a little chattery at first but after turning down the sensitivity to 25 it ran as quiet as a church mouse. Played a little with the threshold but it didn't seem to have as much effect as I thought it would. --3 was perfect. Didn't dig any silver but I did manage 3 wheats at about 8". Good solid tones. Probably still could have picked them up at 10". Very, Very good depth. The real kicker was that I dug a zipper clasp at about 6" that came in very clear! The target seperation is unbelievable! All and All I am very pleased with it. The balance is great and I will have no problem swinging this thing all day. For those guys who are using the F70 don't hesitate to turn down the sensitivity way down if you need to. Still gets great depth. One negative I did notice was that some of the real faint signals gave no ID at all. Didn't dig any of those to see. Will try digging some of those later on. Seems to me this detector is going to be a good one for sure!

Robo,

When you get time to try more configurations, add the SLOW speed option and be ready to reduce the sens some more. Its like TURBO MODE. Even deeper yet.

I too find that the Threshold controls are not anywhere near the way I expected them to be.

Going to use the F70 with some fellas tomorrow who have a site that hasnt had a deep target found in quite some time. Maybe the F70 will change that status of the site.

if you you are digging pennys at 8" thats incredible sounds like a good machine is that 8" whith a tape or on the display of the metal detector

yeah!..me too!..been thinkin' about getting one!..appreciate any and all feedback on performance in the field!..thanks!

Had a great day trying to locate some deeper more valuable treasures but it just wasnt meant to be I suppose. Got to meet Patch and his buddies which was good enough for me!

Patch used the F70 for a while and loved the weight (lack of weight is more accurate) but he didnt care for the ID numbers jumping around on trash targets. Even ID numbers wandering a number below and above the actual coin id did not impress ole Patch one bit. He is very much used to his CZ5 and knows how to use it very well.

I ran the F70 with low sens 15 or less with the threshold at all negative #s throughout the morning. The area didnt seem littered with metal, yet it would chirp falsely every other swing or so. I ran sens down to 10 and had same situation there. GB throughout the field was 78-82 on various samples.

Maybe next time

messing around with the frequencies at all? I haven't tried that yet. I think these F70's are as sensitive as the F75. Also, if you are running in slow mode vs default they do run noisy. Hope to get out again today after work and give it another try. Keep us posted.

Robo, nope, didnt try the freq shift control. Reason I didnt is because when not swinging the coil over the ground there was no chatter or anything. It was solid.

I have used the SLOW mode here at my sites with great success BUT the sens level was set to 1 ONE. It was VERY deep at that setting and tolerable regarding the chatter.

While I have never done more than held a F75, I cant say how the F70 compares but I can say the F70 has plenty of reserve sensitivity that CAN be used in the cleaner, less trashed areas.

Likewise, looking to see how fellow F70 users are doin...... good luck

You should have dug those fain one's just to see what it was. You might have been surprised.
I did ALL faint ones with my MXT and many times they are good targets.

Some of them were repeatable from all angles. Sounded good enough to dig, but with 90 degrees and 90% hunidity I decided to wait till it cools off a little.

tony!..great input!..your posts are terrific!..like johnny dep says:.."i like it!"...simple!...easy to remember!.thanks!

You need to push it over the point of very quiet stability into some slight instability.
Running that threshold up can make a huge difference; the same with running more sensitivity.
You will learn the ground noise and what is a good signal-its no different than the F-75 or any detector in this aspect.
[Try running a CZ at 0 disc, sens at 10, and audio boost at 10-man you don't know what noise is, but having the audio fully open
will make it seem like hunted out sites have never been touched. But you MUST LEARN THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GROUND
NOISE AND A TARGET, AND THE REWARD IS WORTH IT.]

VIAD,I'M GOING TO TRY THAT WITH MY CZ-5.I'LL LET YOU KNOW WHAT HAPPENS.I'M STILL PLAYING WITH THE IDEA OF GETTING THE F-70.
