I have seen this problem arise many times in the forums but never with my F70 until I tried a 5"dd. It seemed to work just fine for a few days but then it started happening. The dreaded incessant "chattering" as if from electrical interference. So I swapped back to my 11" coil and it will do the same thing. I've reset it, turned the threshold waaaay down (-, and the sensitivity(and frequency of course). I can be going along and it will start up just all of the sudden, then stop just as quickly and work fine for awhile. I'll do the factory reset and sometimes it will fix it and sometimes it will just start right back up again anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes later. I do notice it near power lines sometimes, where they have never causes any problems before, but it will do the same thing while out in the middle of nowhere. No electrical anything anywhere near.
I tried changing batteries. The ones I had in there were the high dollar lithiums which have lasted forever it seems (well over 40 hours). They still showed to have 1.5 volts! I tried brand new non-lithium energizers and no change. I've even tried coiling the wire differently.
What am I missing?
