Ok Ok it is the truth but not quite like you are thinking. Picked up the 6.5" coil yesterday. I wanted to detect an entrance onto the beach loaded with trash. I would dig a target and there was another target in the hole and another and another. Not only in the hole but along side of the hole. Each hole was a trench and got deeper and deeper because there was always another target in the hole/trench. Some of the holes were 2 times the length of the coil.deep before I ran out of targets. I was out 3 hours and only detected about 25'. The first picture is the trash and the last picture is what I found. All of that digging for 3 pennies and not even a wheat penny. The oldest was a 1970. Well you can see what a goof ball I am. I guess most wouldn't show their mistakes as huge as mine. I just wanted to show the results of 6.5 coil.
It is a good coil and it probably goes maybe 5"?....... Z

Brian's right.
You didn't do anything wrong, no mistakes. If you're beach hunting and you really want to find jewelry you HAVE to dig trash! It just happened that you were in a trashy area. There could have just as easily been rings mixed in there. Just bad luck that there wasn't.
You could increase your discrim and just dig coins. But you're at the beach - you don't want to do that!

Keep at it.

Thanks for replies. I usually run AT mode and I dig everything. I even dig the swishes with no meter readings. Sometimes those swishes are very deep coins. I dig high tone and low tone and don't care about readings. I am still getting used to the detector and I am amazed at how well the F70 works on the beaches.
After 3 hours of running At mode today I switched and ran dics mode for 2 hours. I picked up 36 coins and a little 925 ring. Some of the coins were past 6". I had a pouch full of trash mostly bottle caps. In Disc mode bottle caps sound like a zip.
Again the F70 is one swell detector.....Z

Just switch to 2F with a DISC of "1"and let iron have it's own ID tone. Then you will know when that is what is beneath the coil, since you must dig everything else, anyway....
As you've learned, there isn't always a lurking treasure where you happen to be. You made no mistakes, but rather were very thorough. Thank your stars that it is sand, and not dirt, you are digging in.

Sure El no rings or coins in that spot.
Dahut Thank you for the info and I tried disc @1 this morning. Your right iron has its own tone. I also use 2F tone when in disc mode. It worked but when I am not in AT mode I feel like I am not getting the best out of my detector. I think it is a goofy personal thing I have at running AT mode. When running At mode I run sens @ 45 and thres @ +8 , sens @ 55 and thres @ 7. These settings seem to be my favorites. The threshold is a nice steady hum and I can very easily hear when it has a slight change. I dig slight changes in threshold, most of the time there is no reading on the meter and swinging the coil back and forth I get a repeatable swish or buzz. Many times in the hole there are 2-3 or more targets and almost always never get a reading on the meter until the target is out of the hole. I keep digging in the hole until there is no more swishes or buzzes in the hole. This has become the way I hunt. Hunting this way sure shoots my coin count but I have been getting incredible depths on finding deep coins. This morning I hit a nickel at 1-2" past the length of the 11" coil. I also found a 1946 wheat at about 8". I am saying that the F70 is getting coins at 13" but, but, but it is the first hit or second hit (tin foil, rusty nail or ??) by now I am down 5" or more and the repeatable swish or buzz in the hole is still there and that is what I am after. Sometimes it is foil, rusty nail, wire but a number of times a coin comes out to my surprise @ an incredible 13" plus. Do I think the 11" coil can get 13"? I have no idea but using the way I hunt I am getting those depths.. Thanks for reading .....Z
