F70 acted strange today

We had a lot of rain here and the sand is still wet under about 1/2". Today I could not get the F70 to settle down in dis mode. Went to AT and ran -3 thres and 70 sens. I seldom got a reading other than 14. Some times there was no reading on the meter but I knew there was something there, threshold had changed slightly. After 3 1/2 hours of listening for just slight changes in the threshold and digging and digging. I had shut the detector off 3 times. I gg many times. With every change in threshold there was something there from foil to coins and one ring. I went to the far south end of the beach and it was normal. I guess the sand was different on the south end of the beach? I got reading that were back to normal. The F70 works great, you just have to learn to change with it...
Thanks for reading.....Z

Very nice ring, is it marked ?

How deep were these threshold changes ? I assume nothing would come up on the VDI with just a threshold change ?

hh,
Brian

Brian the ring is not marked but it sure is an unusual one.
Most targets I dug today were in the 6" plus range. Only time I would get a coin reading would be when coin was on or near the surface. After a scoop or two of sand out of the hole I would start to get a reading or a reading over 14. It was a strange detecting day at this beach. I have always had trouble at this beach detecting. Some of my detectors didn't work on this beach. It is a beach that has pock marks (that is what I call them) all over the beach. Like little craters all over the beach. I really am impressed with the F70 performance and depth. I have worked 4 different beaches with it and it works pretty good. I do almost all beach detecting. Thanks for reading......Z

I've only used my F70 for fresh water beach hunting, but as it's advertised as capable of ground balancing to salt, I assume it would be a decent (as decent as a VLF can be) salt water wet sand beach detector  I don't believe the F75 can GB to salt.

Zeekeys see how all metal works next time you go beach hunting at that odd beach if it's not a trash pit, I bet it runs well and you'll get better depth. How are you setting up your machine for the beach?

Could there be a strong EMI source that's causing the weird behavior? Did you try a different frequency setting?

Brian thanks for reply. I am not a tech. type of guy. I am a machine operator. I usually run dis mode +8/45 thres and sens setting. But sometimes those setting don't work very good so I will go to the other end -3/70/80 thres and sens. When I run all metal mode I run -2/-3/as high as it can go with little falsing on end of sweep with sens. I tried running +4/60 today in all metal mode but threshold was not there with headphone volume settings. If I could hear the threshold hum when it hit a target the target volume was way to loud. I was at my usual beach just a few minutes from my house. I hunt Lake Michigan beaches. I live near 6 beaches. I like threshold soft and target volume soft also. -3 seems to be a good setting for that. I hope this is helping? I don't know, I am just experimenting here and adjusting for the conditions as they are in front of me. I have only had the F70 a short time but I have just put in my 3rd set of batteries. I change them when one bar is showing. I never seem to see how long ago the one bar came up so when I notice one bar I just replace batteries.
Thanks for reply Brian.....Jerry/Z
