I'm no expert on fixing metal detectors but before I starting to try to take it apart I'd first try another head set. Most of the time the problem is external not internal. If that didn't work the next step would be to spray some of that computer cleaner up in the jack port. My little brother(markcz5) is pretty good at this kind of stuff, I'll send him an email right now and ask him to give you some more help.
 
Good advice there SL52...sometimes all a guy has to do is lick the plug...could be a few other things though, like a broken wire in the phone cord..I doubt its a problem with the main rig signal...has to be in the phones....so let these guys walk you through the troubleshooting Eriehunter...:thumbup:

Also I've read on here that you have to take the face plate off to get to the screws to open the case and then the face plate is ruined and you have to get a new one. So please don't take it apart.
