F5 v X-terra

NightStalker

Could anyone help in deciding which detector would be most favourable at searching dry beach sands, I currently own a Whites Prizm IV and want to add another detector that has faster tracking speeds and better recovery.

The Fisher f5 or the Minelab X-terra range?

You might want to try the CZ3 I love it at the beach it is not as fast as the F5 but if you use the little coil in trash it hits the good targets, it is deep and loves silver it is a 2 freq machine Nasa Tom still uses it...

In my ground conditions I really disliked all the Xterra units. I've had at least 2, (maybe 3) xterra-70s. 2 xterra 50s, and 1 xterra 305.

I liked the balance, and the way they sweep, but the tones are funky sounding, the tone id ranges are a bit off for the US (zincs are high tones) and they don't handle iron and minerals together very well. The coils turn into a money pit pretty quick cause you have to have quite a few of them.

The F5 has better ground balance, better tone id, the ranges are correct for the US, the Disc range can be fine tuned and all around just a better operating unit than the Xterras.

Gotta run,
Mike

i would have to agree with mikes thoughts well said mike
he has went the mile & knows his stuff
go f5

Can't comment on the Xterra, but the F5 is an excellent detector.

Mike Hillis is the F5 guru, I can't touch his knowledge, but I can tell you I've made a lot of good finds with the F5 in the 1+ year I've had it.

And it's a lot of fun to use!

Most detectors will hunt fine in dry sand. The Minelabs excel in wet sand but I'd go for something really light like the Ace250 or any of the F-series Fishers.

Being made in Malaysia is not bad as almost all the cpu's in computers are made there.
