F5 Phase numbers correlated to Target ID numbers

Mike Hillis

Well-known member
The manual states that the phase number will measure conductivity in the absence of FE minerals.

So I did a little air testing to see what the correlation is between id number and phase numbers. I sorted the list by phase number before I listed it here. I check phase sometimes when I locate targets but I haven't focused on it and I haven't written anything down. However I can say that it appears to work in the dirt as well. More info to collect :nerd:

It looks like the conductive side of the phase number runs from 1 to 50 and there is a correlation between the target id number and the phase conductive number.

Interesting. Sounds like you have a lot of free time on your hands, right now:biggrin: Is it helpful with digging deep, or iffy signals? Trying to understand why at my advanced age I need to memorize another set of numbers. Not poking fun...just trying to understand the practial application of this feature. NIce job on your part. Never thought about looking into that side of the equasion.

i am still waiting on my f5..but i sure do appreciate all this info..i am printing it off and keeping in so i can study it and learn my machine before i even have it in my hands..you have provided some excellent info:clapping:

That is a great observation. This should help with digging small gold rings in trash laden areas. I got a a signal that repeated with two tones in the two tone mode. One tone said iron. the other a good target. Most iron has a high phase number.Depth was right phase ID was low. I dug the target. It was a pewter flat button.

I have to split it between wife and weather so I'm not hunting every day but I'm fooling around with the F5 in the late night hours :sleepy:

That is a great question, jimmyk. I want to know the same thing. I'm hoping the answer will be yes.
