F5 Or F70

Can someone help me out. I'm in the market to buy a metal detector. And I was wondering what is the better unit the F5 Or the F70.
Thanks

Hey Streetrod,

I purchased the F5 for my first detector. I have been using it over 1 year now and love it. I am guessing you would get a bit more depth with the f70. GOOD LUCK

If you're new to detecting, I'd suggest going with a shorter learning curve - starting out with an easy to use, less expensive detector.

i just got an f70 & i love it
had an f75 & did not like it as much
i find the f70 very ez to use & extremely versatile & very sensitive..
great battery life too :super:
good luck on your choice

I don't know about being "better" out of the two, but the F70 is a little deeper and the F5 has all the controls in easier reach of adjustment. More info on screen on the F5 also. An easier version of the F5 is the Teknetics Omega 8000, which is basically the same machine as the F5. I have an F5 and love it. If you are new to detecting, the F70 may be a bit harder to learn, and we all have to learn by digging lot's of trash first. Better to dig it at 8" than 10'-12" in the beginning. Of course, if you don't like the hobby, you would get your money back quicker on the F70, because the F5 seems to be taking an unjustified bad rap, IMO.

What a great decision to have to make :wiggle:

One of the things I like most about First Texas Products is that they are designing, producing and introducing detectors with a variable array of feature sets that are not only useful for the various types of detecting styles/targets but also increase the likely hood of finding that special unit that you can just click with right off the bat. When you click with a detector, good targets just start jumping out of the ground. Ok, maybe not jump out of the ground, but it sure makes it seem that way.

I've never owned nor used a F70, though I have been tempted at times to try one. From all that I have read, the F70 is a simplified F75 with a threshold feature to help mitigate the small signal noise that can be so fatiguing to listen to on the F75, along with a couple of different filter selections. From what I understand the F70 can obtain the same depth as the F75. Since my F75 was deeper than my F5, then I'm sure the F70 will be deeper than the F5. If depth is the main primary concern you may want to focus on the F70.

However, I am unabashedly an F5 fan. As far as I'm concerned the F5 was created just for me. I have found more gold jewelry with the F5 this year than with any other detector I've used and I've hunted less this year than in any other year I've been detecting. The only thing that would make it better was if it was in a Tek housing. There are a lot of posts on the F5. Do a search for the F5 or do a search for my posts and check it out.

Good luck on your decision, both are great machines.

I sure don't know why. The F5 is a fantastic machine. I don't care about the re-sale value because to me the F5 is a keeper. I have an F70 on it's way, not to replace my F5, but possibly my T2. I never leave the city when I hunt, and there always seems to be an overhead cable running right above. The T2 seems to not like that very much. I drop the sens, way down, but sometimes it's just too chirpy in those conditions. I'm hoping the F70 will be a bit quieter. Whatever happens, the F5 is still my main machine.

dan my f70 is very quiet under power lines
i think you will love it

Dan, I was under some very low lines and had my f70 out of control. I remembered the frequency button and tried a different setting, it was great I could continue hunting in that very same spot without the chaos, and without changing my sens. Although I never had an F5 but do have an F4 and like it -Im sure the F5 is a good machine as well.
