F5 ground balance knob help

what is the purpose of the knob when you push on it and it clicks like a switch
Like it is turning something on or off but I don't see what it is doing on the screen.
 
It doesn't do anything on the production units, I believe it had a function on the prototypes and they changed things on the production units.

IMHO it would've been perfect as the ground grab button (phase). I'm not really sure why their still using this pot, as it's obviously more expensive then the non-push switch pots. Perhaps it gets into some secret/test menu if you know the correct sequence of buttons :shrug:
