F5 Ground Balance Knob Also a Button?

Hello All,

I am new to metal detecting and just got my first metal detector, a Fisher F5, about 2 weeks ago. So far I am enjoying the learning process and really enjoying reading all of the posts on this forum as well as others. I want to personally thank the people here that have posted some really awesome information on the F5. Its making the learning process much easier. Anyway, One thing that I noticed about the GB knob on mine is that it is also a button. Does anyone no what the function of that is? I didn't see anything in the manual, or mentioned online and when pushing it down it doesn't seem to do anything. Just wondering if I might be missing something? Thanks and keep the good information coming. I will also input what I can.

Dan

Hi Dan,

Not sure on your model but the F75 has the same thing where after you make some adjustments with the knob on the left, you can push it to change the screen for the detecting info without having it automatically do the same after a few more seconds. Hope this helps. It was in the manual (F75) but kind of hidden. Reading the manual over and over takes allot of the mystery out. Sometimes there seems to be too much to remember all the features after the first read. I suggest you review a feature after a hunt to help set in your mind what it does and how it works. We all do that to varying degrees.

Good hunting and looking forward to your finds and discoveries with your new 'tector.

Unfortunately, reading the F5 manual over and over puts a lot of the mystery in. It's loaded with errors!

Apologies in advance if I'm saying the wrong person, but I think it was Bill Ladd who said it was the worst manual he ever read.

Thanks for the replys. It seems it would have been logical for Fisher to put the "Phase" button there. But thats nit-pickin a beautifully laid out interface:thumbup:

Fortunately I saw Bill's video of the F5 before I even purchased the detector. Saved a lot of grief when skimming over the manual. I understand everything except for the Gain and Threshold controls. I was at my sisters house for easter. They have an old 1930-40's home and I couldn't find anything over all the trash/iron(a lot of it) except for a few pennies(one wheat) and religious necklace pennant. After reading some more today, I think it finally sunk in on how to properly set both of these settings according to the location. Just need a nice day to test it out.
