F5 face

Saw this pic at cabellas and enlarged it a little. Pretty good detail when you click it. Looking forward to swinging one.

since this is apparently nothing more than speculation at his point. Assuming there are no f-5's in the hands of field testers, at least that are allowed to talk, again at this point, I'm wondering about something I think I see on this F-5 face shot. It appears that obviously the ground analysis is done on the right side segment while the opposite left segment may at the same time show the actual GB setting which would graphically show the operator that he had a true neutral GB or if by choice using manual means, to what degree and in what direction of neutral he or she had an offset dialed in.? If that's the case, that'll be a nice additional touch and easier to do so real time than even the system of the F-75. Hmmmmmm. Hope that's the case. :)

The F5 control functions are set up more in the vein of the MXT and I believe that there are a lot of folks out there that still prefer knobs for quick on the fly adjustments.

for all the naysayers (who mysteriously often seem to swing and post primarily on forums of other brands ;)) screaming "the knobs are too loose!" "the knobs are too tight!" "the knobs are too close together!" "the knobs are ugly!" blah blah blah. :D And speaking of the naysayers, I can just see some entrepreneurial Fisher fan making and marketing a related Tee shirt with a pic of the F-5 on it and text saying "KNOB THIS!" Uh oh.... Hey Buckeye, FREEZE and step away from the french roast coffee!!! :D Anyway, back to the F-5 display pic, I know that particular face configuration may not be valid as far as production units, (sorta looks like where they pulled all the pins in) but I'd sure be appreciative of a detector that shows the ground phase and my or its current gb setting at the same time on the same display screen.

Brad what do you gain having them both displayed? Maybe I'm being thick but I just don't see any advantage to it. Heck I'm happy with the fact that it has manual GB that also goes down to the salt range.

Tom

I wouldn't really call it an advantage but more like a visual convenience.

We will just have to have a wait and see attitude on this one. BUT IT SURE LOOKS GOOD ON PAPER!!

Did I shout that?... Sorry! ;)

Tom

At no time did I use the word "advantage".

I have no recollection and...

I don't care what the Times or MSNBC says!

Brad,

I like your idea. A feature that shows you when it may be to your advantage to re-ground balance would be nice. Either an alert light or perhaps better yet a tone alert in your headphones that lets you know when the current GB setting is off. There would have to be a built in ground tracking circuit which when set to the fixed locked postition would give you the alert.

On the F5 my guess is that the ground phase number shown will be from the last manual GB procedure and not updated by a tracking engine. Which means of course that the GB will have to be checked periodically "the old fashioned way". ;)

Thanks for the food for thought!!

That "Ground Data" window on the right is interesting, wonder what it's telling us on the bar graph ? What does "PHASE" indicate ?

I assume the bar graph under the TID is a depth meter, too bad they don't assign a value in inches to it. It may depend on the settings/coil used like some of their other MD's but I think they should figure out a way to make it a constant measurement amongst all settings/coils (after all it has a computer inside) as it's a challenge to try to remember all the variables (like on the Coinstrikes depth indicator).

I like the TID meter and notching on top, looks very good, nothing to memorize.

I wonder what that FREQ button does ? And TONES ? Hmm...lots of options.

According to the F5 flyer the ground phase and mineralization is constantly updated. My bad
