F5 and a coil cover

wassermann

New member
Does the F5 come factory-equipped with a coil cover? If not, is it obligatory to get one or is it redundant? I know that for 9x8" Tesoro's coils (like that in Cibola for example) a cover is a must-have and the detector comes with that piece straight from the factory. How about Fisher F5 (and F70 perhaps, 'cos it utilizes the same 10x5" concentric coil)?

Brgds,

The coil cover does not come with the detector. You'll need to buy on for it. Some people use them and some people don't. It does keep the coil safe from scrapes and dings you could get from rocks,sticks.. ECT. You should be able to get one for around $15.00 or under. I've used them with all the detectors I have owned. The coil covers for the f5 and F70 should be the same.

I also use them on all my coils.to prevent sand, salt (from water if you beach hunt),etc from finding its way between coil and cover giving false readings I use liquid electrical tape to seal the crack. You may have to apply several coats-let it dry and look for places needing a little more. You can find this stuff in hardware store,or maybe look at walmarts in automotive by trailer lighting stuff. Its black os its not noticeable when done plus waterproof-use it on all outside electrical hookups-both 110v and 12v to prevent shorts.would post pic of mine but need bats for camera-will try later today so you can see what I'm talking about.
