seriously considering getting one, but i have a discovery 3300 right now. need comments on from you all that has used both. is it really that different from the 3300? thanks

You would be pleasantly surprised at the difference, and it's very noticeable.

Due to the fact that I am a dealer for them, I will hold back on further comment, so we don't make it sound like hype.

I'm sure others will chime in on this, and fill you in.

Have a nice day :)

is one better than other? i don't do any beach or water hunting. mostly for older coins and relics. thanks

Hi,

Well I took the "plunge" and bought the F4 (used without the DD coil). Hopefully I'll have it here within a week or so. I'll give my critique as soon as I have a handle on it.

And I had the 3300 which I LOVE! Done real good with it in easy dry beach sand. A little park work too.

I figure just a small improvement from the 3300 would be enough for me...I plan ultimately to get the F75...well as a goal maybe <smile>.

First thing I tried putting it together and it wouldn't turn on, seen it had batteries in it, so I figured it should turn on. I took the batteries out to check them when I seen they were in backward only to discover if I would have read the manual first I would have seen they mentioned this as this is how they are sent to they don't turn on accidentally, shows you got to read the manual first. I do know they only put in one rubber washer as I seen this with my F-75 I had so I knew this was the case, but don't see any at all with the F-4.
I put on the 8 inch coil just to do some testing and found it to be easy to adjust the setting and the air test were great and a lot better then expected.Took it outside to a place on the side of my bar that is super trashy and it worked very well and even put a quarter on top of a rusty bottle caps I seen on top of the ground and it seen the quarter with great ID too. Next I took it out front in the street and put coins on the ground with some trash items and was very impressed at the ID and the depth it would see each target. Now I got the 4 inch coil too with it and put it on and seen the depth is OK, but no where near the 8 inch coil which was expected. I left it on and did a little actual testing in a real trashy area where I have detected with many different detectors over the years. It is considered cleaned out, but with the 4 inch coil I got a couple of deep alum cans and a few nails that were questionable, but also got a 1940 wheat a new penny plus a nickle in about a half hour with it. I did find the pinpointing to be broader that I like it to be, but by getting close to the target before hitting the pinpoint button helps a lot.
Did have a RS 3300 last year to try and it was no where as nice as this detector is.
I got this detector for my wife to use at a competition hunt on Saturday so we will see what it can do for her. I seen I could swing the 8 inch coil as fast as I could and still get a signal and good ID on a quarter with the coil 7 inches above it. I think this F-4 is going to be a real winner with what I have seen with my first impression. Just my opinion.

Hi tbird,

I played around some with the 3300, but not enough to have any kind of knowledgeable opinion of it. However, I've used the F4 a LOT and have found it to be a great detector. According to what I've heard and read, the F4 is deeper, offers a true all-metal mode, has a much faster reset speed, comes with 2 coils and uses higher quality rods and arm cup. I'm sure there are several other differences too, but I didn't use the 3300 long enough to point them out. You can't beat it for the price.

Hey Rick You have a good machine in the F4.To narrow your pinpoint just keep hitting the pinpoint button. Each time you do it re tunes the coil,by placing the coil on the ground while you pinpoint you should be able to get the target in the center of the coil.

I decided to try it out with the 8 inch coil at our club hunt and was very happy with the F-4. I had no problem at all with interference from other detector, locked on good to target even swing the coil fast and was very quiet even with the sensitivity at max. Being the first hunt was dollars and half's I set the disc as high as it would go and never even had to use pinpoint button and had no problems finding the targets. Got 9 Ike dollars a Susan B and 4 Sacajawea and 8 Kennedy halves. Second hunt was tokens for a envelope with $1- $15 and I got 9 of them for a total of $29. Last hunt was the silver hunt with dime quarters and a few silver halves, I got 19 dimes and only 1 silver quarter. One of the dimes was just a small blip of a signal, but got my attention so I stopped and went over it to find it was down a little standing on edge. I was having some problems with a couple of rusty nails and small pieces of alum, but found out I hit the disc button and had it in all metal instead of disc. I like how easy it is to set the disc when hunting as you just have to hit the plus for more disc or minus for less disc.
I had my F-75 with me too, but seen for this type of detecting the F-4 worked a lot better.
I think this will be a keeper for me as I like the way it works and how easy it is to use plus light weight.

Rick
