F4 Pinpointing Mode Ground Balancing ? :nerd:

If it's not pouring on Saturday, I'm going to take my F4 out for the first time and give it a whirl.

I've been reading the operators manual and posts here and had a question about using the Pinpoint Mode. The manual states that in Pinpoint mode the 2-digit number on the display indicates the estimated target depth in inches. Then it goes on to state that it's most accurate when the detector is ground balanced. As I understand it, manual GB only works in all metal mode (which is a subset of the Pinpoint mode).

Are folks ground balancing their F4's when hunting with Discrimination mode so the Pinpoint in all metal mode works better ?

Thanks!

I would say myself that being the pinpoint mod is all metal that your best depth reading would be if you ground balance in all metal at the site before you go to disc, this way when you use the pinpoint button you will be in all metal and it would be ground balance to give you the most accurate reading. That my opinion on what they are saying in the manual.

Thanks Rick.

Guess it does make sense to GB in AM for accurate Pinpointing. Too bad you can't do a manual ground balance in the Discrimination mode, but it'll be interesting to see how the F4 works overall.

I used to, but I dont anymore. I have also noticed that the depth indicator in PP mode is not always accurate especially on larger items. I may try and GB it from now on just to see if that helps with depth accuracy.
