F4 Ground Balance

Hi I know I promised not to post unless it was important but I guess there aren't alot of F4 users and maybe getting some more info on them might get a few more in circulation.

My question is how important is ground balancing the F4 - from my understanding it doesn't carry over in the discriminate mode. Everytime I get the F4 back from my wife I noticed that she has moved the g.b. knob, I was wondering if it would affect performance.

I am confused on the coils - some people say the 8" round is deeper than the 11" DD, and some say the opposite. Could anyone clear this up for me. My F4 id's targets alot more accurately with the DD coil. Thanks again! Steve (I really like the F4)...

when I say, if you have questions or concerns, post all you want! It's the best way to speed up the learning-a-new-detector process. The folks here at Findmall have helped me out hundreds of times. In my soil, I get better depth with the DD coil. I'm sure that varies depending on where you're located.

1. The GB does NOT carry over from All Metal to the Disc mode.
So if you hunt in Disc mode you don't have to worry about the position of the GB control.
2. The 11" DD coil is about 2" deeper on a coin sized target in my soil.
Due to the DD design the 11" coil separates batter than the 8" too.

For those who still think the F4 is just a Discovery 3300 in a new package read this: F4 vs Discovery 3300

Hope that helps,

All the Fishers I ever had they do carry over to the Dis. Mode. Where did they tell you that the F4 has a fixed G/B and that the G/B does not carry over to the Dis. Mode. How about the F75. Just interested. Thanks Jerry aka Tinfoil

If you want it confirmed by the manual you have to read between the lines. The quick start did not say that you have to GB if you use the disc mode.

I found it out by mis-adjusting the GB in Disc mode. Over my ground every detector with a too negative GB went nuts. I changed the GB to all the way counterclockwise and clockwise...nothing changed.
My findings were later confirmed by Dave Johnson.

The F75 GB does carry over to the Disc mode. Just mis-adjust it negative and you have a lot of feedback from the ground.

Just to try on a black sand salt water beach that I hunt. It is suppose to be a nice little machine. Thanks Jerry aka Tinfoil
