after thirty years in this great hobby,i have learned that one must be careful about the "hype" of bells and whistles on different detectors!..i learned early on that the detector with ALL the bells and whistles is NOT necessarily the better detector!..we are all tempted to want to "step up" so to speak from a current detector that we have done well with..the EXPERIENCE gained from using different detectors with different features over a long period of time has convinced me that ONLY certain features ARE necessary to be successful in the hobby.when the time comes that you KNOW from the knowledge gained from experience in the field,EXACTLY what features in a detector are required, then you do NOT need to spend an exorbitant amount of money to realize your goals!..case in point is the new f2 from fisher!
in my view, this detector offers ALL you will ever need to hunt in trash laden places where probably 90% of us hunt anyway!..to reiterate,..it has tones, numerical id,and arguably the fastest digital processor in the west,or anywhere else for that matter, and the detector costs ONLY $200.00.and includes a 4" coil with lower stem!..i am convinced that a lot of good stuff STILL can be found in those "so-called" "hunted out parks, and other heavily used sites!..as i mentioned in a prevoius post, users ARE getting adequate depth 6" plus, along with enough information about targets to make the dig,or not dig choice,,so why would one WANT to pay more?..the only additional feature that,(in my opinion)..could be useful is a manual (g.b) knob, however again,if your soil is low to moderate mineral content, then you don't need it!..if you want to pay more to have a ton of features on a detector that will,in all probability, seldom get used, then go for it!..as the saying goes:.."there ain't no shortage, just of the RIGHT kind!"
