after thirty years in this great hobby,i have learned that one must be careful about the "hype" of bells and whistles on different detectors!..i learned early on that the detector with ALL the bells and whistles is NOT necessarily the better detector!..we are all tempted to want to "step up" so to speak from a current detector that we have done well with..the EXPERIENCE gained from using different detectors with different features over a long period of time has convinced me that ONLY certain features ARE necessary to be successful in the hobby.when the time comes that you KNOW from the knowledge gained from experience in the field,EXACTLY what features in a detector are required, then you do NOT need to spend an exorbitant amount of money to realize your goals!..case in point is the new f2 from fisher!
in my view, this detector offers ALL you will ever need to hunt in trash laden places where probably 90% of us hunt anyway!..to reiterate,..it has tones, numerical id,and arguably the fastest digital processor in the west,or anywhere else for that matter, and the detector costs ONLY $200.00.and includes a 4" coil with lower stem!..i am convinced that a lot of good stuff STILL can be found in those "so-called" "hunted out parks, and other heavily used sites!..as i mentioned in a prevoius post, users ARE getting adequate depth 6" plus, along with enough information about targets to make the dig,or not dig choice,,so why would one WANT to pay more?..the only additional feature that,(in my opinion)..could be useful is a manual (g.b) knob, however again,if your soil is low to moderate mineral content, then you don't need it!..if you want to pay more to have a ton of features on a detector that will,in all probability, seldom get used, then go for it!..as the saying goes:.."there ain't no shortage, just of the RIGHT kind!"

F2 to you too is just my way of saying hello to fellow F2 owners. I love swinging mine also. It's light, super fast, and easy to operate once you get an understanding of what it's trying to tell you. I've got about 70hrs with mine and I'm still learning. But everytime I swing that sucker, I'm more impressed with it. The F2's potential is an exciting possibility to look forward to. I'm still waiting for a used one to pop up on Ebay. If their selling, I'm buying!

Bozack there's a used F4 (F2's big brother) for sale here on the classifieds forum for a song and a dance, it includes the DD, 8" and 4" coils, might be worth checking out.

great little detector for the money,if you pay more it's generally for MORE bells and whistles!..to be honest,if ya do get a little more depth, you don't really need it!..in my experience just about all the good stuff has been 6 ,or 7" to surface, especially in trash!..granted ,it is nice to have a detector all LOADED up with features, however MOST of 'em will never be used MOST of the time anyway!..i guess it is healthy physcologically!

Thanks Jmaryt and CalCobra for the responses. I'll check it out.

Bummer, it looked like a very nice deal (I believe the DD coil is over $100 from the dealers, and it's a coin rake of a coil too).

yeah!..give it a look see!..you really do NOT have to spend a ton of money to do well in the hobby!..whoever told ya that you have to have a top of the line detector with a ton of features you'll seldom use is blowin' smoke out of his a**!....the f2 has enough to do the job!..believe me.you don't need to dig to china to find stuff!..that's a bunch of s***!..i am tellin' ya i have been hunting for over thirty years here in new england, and MOST of the stuff i dug with "top" of the line detectors, and just average detectors with minimum features was approx.6" to surface!..that's right!..believe it!..the f2 has been reported to go down 8 or 9" trust me!
truly ALL the depth you need!..if you want to pay more, then they ARE available, however in my view, you DON'T need to!...check the little guy out!..i think it is gonna be a real "sleeper!"..been at it a long time, and i really do know what i am talking about!..i have no affiliation with first texas whatsoever,i just think "they" got it right in a lightweight, well balanced package!

Thanks for the good info on the f2. I am going to buy my first metal detector and decided the ace 250 or the f2 was for me. Due to the forum, i think the f2 is the one........thanks

You probably made the right chioce with the F2 if its your first detector.
The Ace 250 is a fine machine but the pinpointing drives some people NUTS while others catch on right away.
The F2 apparently pinpoints spot on! The machine is very deep and fast.
Good luck
RR

^ The F2 & F4 pinpoint spot on with the concentric coils. The DD is a little trickier, but with practice, it's fairly accurate as well.

Considering that the F2 has 80% the features the F4 does, at half the price, it's probably the best bang for the buck MD on the planet right now.
