F2?

rob

Member
This may have been explained but does the F2 have a true pinpoint mode, a "hum" when pressed, like the ACE 250?

Thanks,Rob

The F2 has a true non motion pinpoint feature. But it has a super fast target response and you can pinpoint without it if you want.

1..how deep can this unit detect a clad dime in neutral soil...8" coil?
2...how deep will the target id be accurate?
3...how stable are the electronics....drift?
4..how well does this unit ignore iron trash?
5...does it have a fast reset time between targets?
6... How fast can you swing this detector ?
7....why isnt the factory advertising the f2 on their web pages?
thanks for your help.

Most of your questions can be answered if you do an author search of this forum - enter "Andy,NM" without quotes.

Andy probably has the more F2 experience than most of us he and tells it like it is.

Hi BobH,

I just ordered the F2 after reading Andy's impressions on this detector and noticed Mike Hillis has possibly found a better trash hunter than his Tesoro Golden which i also have.I'm actually excited about getting this detector for $199 with a 4" coil and lower shaft. HH Bill

1..how deep can this unit detect a clad dime in neutral soil...8" coil?

I don't have neutral soil to test that. It hits a dime at 10 " in air and a quarter at 11". I know we don't detect in air but the ground all over the US can be so different that posting a depth in my soil doesn't make sence. The performance in your soil could be totally different. For $199 it is to deep ! This detector has an 8" coil and detects deeper than some detectors using a larger coil.
It is NOT as deep as a F75.

2...how deep will the target id be accurate?
Depends on your soil again. I was surprised to see how well the numbers were stable up to 8" in air. A Nickel that reads 33 at 2" read 40 at 8". Since the F2 has a depth on the fly meter you can learn the number of a target in conjunction with the depth. More expensive detectors didn't do better.
3...how stable are the electronics....drift?

No drift noticed.

4..how well does this unit ignore iron trash?

Very well...reject iron and even large steel tools are gone.

5...does it have a fast reset time between targets?

Yes, but like any detector as long as it sees a target it won't reset. Use the 4" coil in trash !!!

6... How fast can you swing this detector ?
Very fast, but i don't swing it fast, because i don't want to miss a target. I want to make sure i covered every inch of the ground when detecting.

7....why isnt the factory advertising the F2 on their web pages?

I guess and it is just a guess that they sell so many that they cant keep up production. Why advertise if they are on backorder already.
My tip: If you know a dealer who has one...buy one quick !

...I also noticed Mike Hillis likes it too. Unfortunately, I had an audio problem and had to send mine in for repairs. I did use it for two hours and was very impressed with its ability. -- BobH

It ain't good when you have problems right off the bat and hope they quickly resolve your problems in regards to your F2.I seem to get better performance hunting my sites with a mixture of lower and mid level detectors and coil combinations than placing all my hopes on the biggest and baddest single detector. Nice to talk to you again. HH Bill

I do have an F75 and it's the best detector I've ever used, but the F2 found a few coins I'd missed with the F75. I think the smaller concentric coil, different frequency and the F2's ability to ignore steel bottlecaps helped - couldn't be the operator. ;) Nice chatting with you too.

How does the disc work? when it is set, does it eliminate everything below that point? Example, set it at 50, and everything from 1-49 knocked out?
Also the 4 notches.... what targets are eliminated in each segment? 1st segment probably takes out iron, what about the other three? thanks.

There are 0-99 numbers and 8 target groups. From low to high you have iron, foil, nickel, tab, zinc, dime, qtr, + The + sign is anything above a quarter. You can use the disc button and it eliminates target zones from low to high up to dime. Or you can pick and choose different target zones below dime. Dime and above are non adjustable meaning they can't be disc or notched out. But I never disc those zones out anyway. The F2 gives you 4 ways to determine a target ID. The order of importance is 1st. Beep tone. 2nd. Target zone. 3rd. Numeric read out. 4th.The non motion pinpoint mode can trace the target shape and size. These four things combined plus a repeatable beep give you a lot of info. Pretty darn good for 199.00 with 2 coils and extra lower shaft!

So you can knock out the iron segment, the foil segment , and the tab segment if you choose, and keep the rest?
you are right, excellent price on this unit.
