F2 vs other higher priced detectors....

Today i thought about what i would have to buy to get a better detector than the $199 Fisher F2. I went to the pages of the other companies and it was eye opening what i found out.

Lets take the F2 vs the Garrett GTAx 500.

The 550 retails for $499 (street price $425), twice as much as the F2 that retails for $249 (street price 199 with two coils).

Now is the 550 the better detector ?

The 550 has more weight than the F2

The 550 doesn't have VDI numbers from 0 to 99 like the F2.
That means the 550 can not see the difference between the newer style pull tab and a nickel. The F2 can, because nickels read 32 to 33 and pull tabs 34 to 35.

The 550 doesn't have the locking nuts between the rods. They always wiggle. F2 has these locking nuts and they give it a more stable feel.

The 550 does NOT have a "depth on the fly" meter like the F2.

The 550 is slower in response than the F2.

The 550 does Not come with an extra small coil.

Well...you get the point...more money for less.

Next i looked at Whites Prizm 5 that retail for $549 and it is on sale now for 499.95.

The Prizm 5 doesn't have VDI number either.

The Prizm is slower in response than the F2.

The Prizm does Not come with an extra small coil. You can't even buy a small coil for it !!!

Again: Less Target ID for twice money.

I used the F2 the last two weeks and wouldn't even trade it straight up for one of the above $500 detectors.

Andy, two hundred dollars doesn't buy a good metal detector except the Ace 250.The Ace is a remarkable detector in a lot of different category's.It made very well and has a good track record for quality and performance. The Ace 250 also has a great resale value.I have owned the Ace,550 Gtx 550 and a Prizm 111 and in my opinion the Ace 250 out performs both of these higher priced units. The F2 vs the Ace 250 undisputed champion of the submidpriced metal detector.

>>>>>The F2 vs the Ace 250 undisputed champion of the submidpriced metal detector.<<<<<
We'll see. While the Ace is a nice machine, there is always room for improvement. The same MAY hold true for the F2.
Personally I'm not a big fan of eliptical coils so the F2 is very appealing since it COMES with an 8 inch coil and 4 inch sniper coil and rod.
Also The gradation of numbers on the VID is a real plus and from what I have heard from those people who have used the F2,
they do a lot less digging trash than with the Ace. I'm with Andy on tis one. I wouldn't bet my money on the Ace in winning any contest
at this point. Three cheers for the F2:clapping:

I think you can get a smaller coil than the one that comes with it. Possibly oney the 8 inch but there are options other than just the standard coil. I might be mistaken ,but dont think so. HH

Sonny,
The F2 comes with an 8 and 4 inch concentric coil with an extra lower shaft. Also the 11 inch DD coil and 10 inch magnum concentric coil will work.

yes I know, was just responding to the statement that you cant buy a smaller coil for the prism. you can get the 8 inch was my point. not that much smaller, but you can get a different coil for the prism. HH

The prizm coils are the 950 and 800 coils. You can buy a Bigfoot DD coil for the prizms but I believe they are about $250.00 I believe the 8 inch coils are your best bet over any 9.5 inch coils.

The F2's has the 4 inch that's perfect for bark chips and trashy sites.

As more folks get their hands on them it will become widely known. It really is that good.

HH
