F2 Siver and other goodies:thumbup:

Hey Everyone,
Got out with some members from another forum, had a blast. F2 ran great and got me 2 firsts. My first silver of the year is a 1920 Merc. and my first ever Buffalo Nickel is a 1923. I also found 5 wheats and the usual clad. Thanks for looking.
Glenn

terrific finds!..glenn!..what was the average depth of the "goodies?"..are you gettin' down there with the f2?

I'm guessing the U on the bullet is by Union Metallic Cartridge co. (UMC), a division of Remington.

Thanks Cal,
I got the Buffalo first thing in the morning it was maybe the 3rd target I dug and that made my day. I got the merc in the last half hour and that just put me over the top.

Thanks J.T. I'm getting down there but the targets were shallow, the merc was about an inch down and the buffalo was about 2 inches down. One of the other guys, fellow member Joe G. got a 1908 Barber Quarter, 1914 Barber Dime, 1917 Merc and a 1964 Rosie. I asked him how deep and he said 2-3 inches on them all.

Thanks for that info hsjrev, sounds good. I never expected to see markings on a shot bullet like that, thanks.

ok!..glenn!..i own a f2,and i am curious if it will get down the 6 or 7" necessary to "pop" the older silver!..i have not hit anything yet at that depth, but i just started using it,and a nother user stated he was getting down 8"..glenn!..just proves that NOT ALL the silver is deeper,so ya gotta dig all good sounding signals!..thanks!

I got great depth at the "hunted out" park where I found the ring back in March with the F2. Measured at 8-9" on a few targets which were nickels and some beavertails. Just think how much old gold is waiting for someone with the patience to dig'em up

Funny with the depth, I knew Joe G. found his silver at 2-3 inches because I asked him when we were having lunch, I found the Buffalo early on and it was shallow too. After lunch when I was hunting a different area of the park, I hit on a few deep targets, quarters and dimes at 6-7" and was thinking very old coin for sure but they turned out to be clad. You just never know.

I'm just learning that a lot also depends on where you hunt, you have to go to established, known old spots to put yourself in the position to make the finds.

Good Luck,
Glenn

Glenn is pro with his F2 and it shows. Outstanding guy to be around. All machines today from low priced to the high get about the same in depth, what your paying more for in some respect is bell and whistles. Turn on and go dig is better than having to mess with a bunch of settings. Proof is in Glenns finds.

excellent point!.glenn!..i have been hunting thirty years myself,as you mentioned, you just NEVER know for sure!..when i bought the f2,i thought it would enable me to go back to all the olde parks i hunted in the past, and find more goodies!..the digital micro processor used in the f series detectors is awesome in it's "nano second" ability to separate targets, and my feeling is you only need "certain" features on a detector to properly hunt trashy sites, and the f2 has enough features to do the job!...it is comforting to know that the depth is there with the f2,as that was my only concern initially when i purchesed it!..thanks for the follow-up info,it is really appreciated!

i agree!..the reason i asked is a matter of curiosity...i am hoping to duplicare his performance with mine, and KNOWING the depth acheived with the f2 is comfortng to me,because i KNOW users are getting satisfactory depth to "pop" the older stuff!..i just started using mine, and was just wondering about it!

hi glenn!
just happened to think to ask you what "gain" setting you had the f2 set at when you got the deeper hits?..as you know it has percentage "hash" marks, and when turned on initially is set to 75% "gain!....thanks again!

sorry to keep buggin' ya,but i was wondering also which coil did you use to hunt the parks with?..have you used the "hockey puck? yet?..if so,how did it performed!
i thought i might use mine to hunt "sidewalk easements" as generally they are loaded with trash, and require a "concentrated",and thorough search!

regards!

I run mine full throttle, sens at max with the 8" coil. I have been hunting very trashy sites and probably should use the smaller coil but as you can see by my finds I'm digging all the tabs and beavertails cause I'm looking for the gold too. I have only used the 8" coil.

When I get a couple of hits in a swing that's when I slow down. I will turn the sens down to get the good stable ID numbers and depth meter. I will clear the area of trash and targets and then just to be sure I go over the whole area again with the sens at max. In other words I'm constantly adjusting the sens now, it's very easy to do.

One other thing is I dig all repeatable signals, even if they're a dual tone signal, I can't tell you how many holes I dug a coin and a tab out of the same hole.

Hope that helps, looking forward to seeing you pull out some nice finds with your F2. Good Luck!
Glenn

hi glenn!
yes!..i would hunt the same way in trying to isolate those "high tones" in the junk!..varying the sensitivity is a accurate way of getting "clean" hits with "solid id!
i hope to get out shortly and employ the same strategy..as mentioned gonna save the 4" coil for the sidewalks!

Good luck J.T. remember the dual tone signals I mention too. A lot of times I dig a tab and a coin very very close even in the same hole.

will the F2 Beep Beep on a ring read both sides..I have heard its fast like the F75 ..
