F2 Repair Update/Fisher service

Hi All,

A few weeks ago I posted a comment/question about a problem with not being able to turn the detector off after I changed the batteries.

Well, I spoke Fisher and they said it needed to be returned for repair. On Fri. Oct. 10 I shipped the unit to Fisher via UPS ground. Fisher received it on Wed. Oct. 15. The unit was repaired and shipped back to me on Fri. Oct. 17. I received it yesterday, Tues. Oct. 21. Las Vegas area to El Paso and back to LV area.

The repair consisted of replacing component U18 and the front panel membrane.

I have to give Fisher two thumbs up for its service. One day turnaround and fast return.

I do find it hard to believe that Fisher would do a board level repair on a $200 detector. Whatever, I have it back and it works great.

That depends on what U18 is and how it's attached to the board. Socketed or chip lead carrier it's no big deal. A decent re-work station with the proper attachments also makes life easier on surface mount items. The front panel membrane may have actually been the biggest PIA.:)

Glad you got it resolved.
