F2 Positive Ground Balance

I am not sure if this is how they are suppose to be or not, but if I hold the pinpoint button in & lower the coil to about 1 inch from the ground I get a steady sound and it continues until I let off of the pinpoint button. So I am thinking that my F2 is set positive for my ground. ( I checked this in clean ground with no metal anywhere). I don't want to get anything started about doing something that shouldn't be done but I wish that I knew how to open up the F2 and figure out which pot. (trimmer) controls the ground balance. My F2 does a pretty good job but I think it would do even better if it was set better to my ground. Do the rest of you F2 owners find the ground balance set positive for your area. Thanks! Steve.

Thanks Vlad, I emailed Mr.Bill & this is his responce:

I believe you would have to remove the front panel off the unit. This requires a new panel to replace after you remove the old because it's glued on.

So with saying that, a trip to Fisher would be in order.

I noticed if I take out the batteries and look inside the detector through the battery compartment there are some pots./trimmers, I am not sure which one if any controls the ground balance. Steve.

Unfortunately I can't do that to a new one. Or better said I won't do that to a new one.

I'm sure one is a ground comp trimmer. Why not just phone their service dept Monday, and ask them. They may surprise you and tell :)

Will do, thanks Mr. Bill. Steve.

I have to ask, if high sensitivity is such a problem why do the Mfgs make them that sensitivity?
Whats the high sensitivity good for?

Hi RR, I think it is because each and every detector will work differently in different parts of the country (different ground conditions) and the manufactures either have the sens. setting user adjustable or set at the factory where they think would be an average best. Steve.

That would make a killer f2 (and f4?)

Hmm, got me thinking Wayne, maybe not - I took alot of grief when I opened up a couple of my Tesoro detectors, and all I did was to adjust the internal ground trimmer. Didn't get any grief from Tesoro just from a couple of members on one of the forums. Steve.

Well, thats sounds reasonable. It just seems odd that people are picking up signals from other targes 12 inches away from their coil, or so I have read. That seems like a bit TOO much sensitivity.

Finally got through to the service dept. I would have better luck getting the key to Fort Knox than I would getting any info from Fisher/First Texas on the F2's ground balance settings. Steve.
