F2 or ACE 250 your thoughts

Im looking to buy a new detector and am tossing up between the fisher F2 & ACE 250 , I am a tesoro user and am just looking for a change of pace as the ol single tone can get a bit tyring after a while and and tid&vid would be a nice change now an then , hehe still love my Tejon .. I have previously owned an ace 250 and liked it , I read that the F2 had some issues early on when they first came out , am wanting to know if these bugs have been irioned out in the current models . Also your thoughts as to what is the best bang for buck , I maily coin hunt ghost towns and parks , all advice appreciated

Get the F5 if you have the funds, it's a great all round detector for it's price and features !

I have an Ace and some nice posters have told me that they were about even. I probably would've been just as happy with the F2. I have a sniper coil with mine and would reccomend one for either. For my part, I love the fact that the sensitivity can be adjusted to almost nothing on the Ace and thus allowing me to get right next to metal poles. I also love being to change disc. modes by just pushing one button-and a customs mode that I prefer can be put in so I can immediately access it. The factory preset sensitivity setting is way too high for most areas and I also understand that some F2 users got better results with a lower sensitivity setting. I once thought I missed something by not having the vdi numbers before I realized they just coincided with different spots on the icons and their respective positions on the graph. Not worth giving mine up to decide-I'm happy with what I have.

yeah I couldnt really fault the Ace 250 apart from it being little nose heavy great detector for the $ and a pleasure to use ,I would purchase another ACE 250 but variety is the spice of life and I would like to try the F2 , but would like to get the thoughts of users on the differences pro's an cons on both before I purchase

I also use a Vaquero and I bought and F2 as a vacation-backup-guest detector.

I bought the F2 because it works similarly to the Tesoros, and works well it does!

I still hunt by sound first and foremost, but the VDI does add another dimension and is really fun to use.
I have extremely challenging soil here in Alabama, I still get 8 inches plus on dimes!

If you are used to the rapid recovery speed on The Tesoro, and would like close to the same, the F2 is the one.

thanks for the input DIGGER27 , yes I perfer the fast response of the tesoro , I have watched some youtube vids on the F2 and been impressed with what Ive seen , what is the battery life on the F2 like , I had a BHQDII that used 2x9v Batts and it chewed through'em mighty fast also it drained them at different rates so to get better performance from the batts I would swap them over at about half life , I had read that the BH use's one battery to power display and the other for audio ,do you know if this also the case with the F2 ??

the more I investigate the more Im getting the feeling that the F2 is poorly made & flimsy at best , I dont have access to go take a look at one in the flesh , how is the build quality compared to the Ace range ? Ive read the F2 is just a re badged Bounty hunter ?? same build quality

2 batteries, but they seem to last for hours if you use headphones.

As far as build quality, seems to be fine to me and as a matter of fact, even better than expected at this price point.
Never held an Ace so I can't give an opinion or observation about that one.
I also own a cheap BH and a Vaquero to compare, and I was in retail sales for over 25 years, so I know a thing or two about the levels of manufacturing, too.

Not flimsy, for this price range especially, does not work at all like my BH and this is very mineralized soil around here.
It works like my Vaquero which is why I bought it.
With a little less oomph, which is to be expected.

I started with the ACE, but sold it for the F2. Just didn't get the depth that the F2 did in my bad ground. The ACE was always falsing on the iron badly..and I couldn't stand that wobble due to lacking the locking collet on the rod joint. I still use my F2 even though I have a more expensive detector. Build quality is fine in my opinion. F2 is light and stable.

trueblue,I started metal detecting at the end of june last summer. I started with the ace250 and got an f2 for a back up. I didn't use the f2 a whole lot til I put the small sniper coil on it. I put 187 hours on the ace and 75 hours on the f2. for some reason I didnt care alot for the 8 in. coil on the f2 but once I put the smaller coil on I split my hunts between the two machines. as far as any falsing from the ace I didnt have a problem. Nor did I have a problem with shaft wobble. I can't say anything bad about either detector. In fact when the ace350 came out I had planned on selling the f2 to help me get the 350 but I couldn't do it. then the atpro came out and I figured I would sell both the 250 and the f2 to help pay for the atpro but I couldn't do it. I like both the 250 and the f2.So now I have the f2,ace250,350, and my atpro should be here bout the middle of next week. I ordered the atpro from kellyco and decided to use the bogo sale they offer to get an mpx. I'll have to say when I first got the f2 I thought it was cheaply made but it has proven me wrong. lol I guess this isn't helping you in making a decision but which ever one you decide on, be sure and get the sniper coil for it. those little sunaguns are great.
