Found this bullet casing in an old park and the button not far away on the same day. Any ideas on these? The casing has no writing on the base.

and in great condition too. What does the back mark read? Hopefully some one can ID it for you.

Cool button. Never seen one like that before.

Hello Jackpine Savage,

The top of the button says; "VIRGINIA SIC SEMPER TYRANNIS." On the back it says; "SUPERIOUR QUALITY" Check the link hsjrev sent. (Thanks hsjrev) The wording is the same but the scene's on each have differences.

All the best

Post this on the relic forum, someone there is bound to have a button book and can ID it for you.

Here's a link to some Virginia Seal buttons on a dealers website. Nothing exactly matches yours but it another place to start with some surprising prices!

Hi Cliff,

I had at first suspected the shell casing was a Jap Nambu, but possibly it is a 7.65 Luger.
My source for Nambu info did not show a case head with the machined ring around the primer pocket.

Let me try to paste it over here...

8mm Nambu

The 8mm Nambu round looks a little like 7.65mm Luger (also called .30 Luger). At the far left are two original 8mm Nambu rounds, one with a copper jacket and one with cupro-nickel (silver-coloured). The slightly shorter round next to it is a W.R.A. 7.65 Luger round. The second one from the right is a little longer. It is a 7.63 Mauser / .30 Mauser round used in the Broomhandle Mauser. At the far right is a Yugoslav 7.62mm Tokarev, also called 7.62 TT or .30 Tokarev. It is basically a hotter loading of the 7.63 Mauser. US and Canadian dimes as well as a ruler are included in this shot and the other comparisons below for scale.

Pics didn't make the trip along w the text...@#$!

Hope that helps...

Well, after looking further, and at the 7.62 x 25 Tokarev round, I think I might be off-base...
Will look elsewhere.

Oh, the lower photo in the post above is a practice round.
