F2 notch question

CliffHanger

New member
It is easy to notch out iron on the F2. Sometimes it's easy to notch out iron and tabs. At other times it seems impossible.
Someone must know the correct sequence of Dis + - and notch to disc out or notch out iron and tabs both.

Thanks

CliffHanger

All you have to do to notch out iron is turn the machine on. Then push the notch button 2 times. Iron is then notched out.

More and more I am convinced Fisher should have put out a
DVD tutorial that answer's these questions. It looks
like Fishers wants to cut corners and say money again.

I guess the companies have to save money somewhere to sell good detectors for $200? The F2 has no DVD or explicit manual - but has locking cams on the shaft. Ace 250 has a nice manual and DVD but no locking cams?

Hey CliffHanger,

I don't always do the best job in the world when it comes to explainint things! But, I'm gonna attempt this one for you. Keep in mind that I'm doing this on mine as I describe it to you.

To remove iron and foil:
Press the Disc. + button two times. The first press removes iron and the second removes foil. You now have your machine set up to discriminate out iron and foil.

To remove iron and tabs:
Press the Disc. + button 4 times (the first removes iron, the second removes foil, the third removes nickels, and the fourth removes tabs). Now, press the Notch button one time, and immediately press the Disc. + button two times. Then, immediately press the Notch button. You have now re-added nickles. Now, press the Notch button again. Immediately press the Disc. button one time. Then, immediately press the Notch button. You have now re-added foil. You now have your machine set up to discriminate out iron and tabs.

To remove iron, foil, and tabs:
Press the Disc. + button 4 times. Now, press the Notch button one time. Immediately press the Disc. + button two times. Then, immediately press the Notch button. You have now set your machine to discriminate out iron, foil, and tabs.

I hope this has helped you out. Playing with mine is how I learned how to do this. I know it sounds complicated. But, I think that after you've had a chance to play with yours for a while, you will get the hang of it. I did! And, now I can quickly set it any way I want to!!

If I can help you any more, don't hessitate to let me know!

Robert

Your instructions on notching out iron and tabs on the F2 works like a charm. Thank you.
My next door neighbor figured it out but didn't have time to explain it to me.
I was practicing in the yard when I heard the voice from next door.
Neighbor - "Hey Cliff, new metal detector?"
Me - "Yep"
Neighbor watching me frantically pressing everything on the faceplate. "Watcha tryin ta do?"
Me - "Come here and I'll show you. See where it says iron and tabs? Well, I'm trying to get them off so the machine won't detect them. I'm having a hard time."
Neighbor - "Can I try?"
Me - Chuckling to myself. "Absolutely!"
Neighbor - Press press press press press ... BINGO! "Is that what you mean?"
Me - "Yes, exactly. Man, that was lucky!"
Neighbor - "It wasn't luck. I understand a little about how some things are programmed."
Me - "Yeah, right."
Neighbor - "It is right! I could do it faster next time."
Me - "Yeah, right!"
Neighbor - "Wanna make a bet?"
Me - Knowing this showoff is just bluffing - "Name the amount!"
Neighbor - "How bout a dollar?"
Me - "You got it!" knowing this would be the easiest buck I had ever won.
My neighbor powered up and before I could blink, iron and tabs were off the screen.
Well, I lost a buck or should I say I bought two valuable lessons for a buck that day. Number one - Just because some things are difficult for you does not mean they aren't simple for someone else. And number two; never make a bet with an eight year old kid!
While I was paying up Bill from across the street yelled. "Hey Maggie, when your done there can you come over and check out my new micro wave oven I can't set it right."
Maggie - "Sure, I'll be right over. See ya Cliff."
Me - "See ya Maggie and hey, thanks."
Maggie - "No problem.
Me - "Yeah, that's easy for you to say."
Maggie - Skipping across the street laughing.

All the best

Cliff, that was the best laugh I've had so far this year!!!!!!!!!! Don't get me wrong... I'm not laughing at you!! I'm laughing because I have had quite similar things happen to me countless times!!! I'm just glad I could help you out!

Robert Roy, I don't know about the F4. I don't own one or have anyone close to me to try it out. Wish I could help you more.

Does the notching work the same way for the F4?
I'm guessing it does.

I don't have an F4, but I downloaded and read the manual as it's one of the MD's I was considering purchasing, and the disc/notching is well explained in the manual. It looks to be programmed the same as the F2, albeit the F2 has a bit of a different controller when I looked at it's controller photo on http://fisherf75.com/ vs the F4.
