F2 Larger than Life (Kind of)

I have noticed the few times that I have used the F2 that the targets seem to be larger than they really are, example say you get a dime signal - as you pass the coil over the dime (still in the ground) you will get a signal with the outside of the coil not just the middle of the coil. When in pinpoint mode trying to "size" the target it also shows the target larger than it actually is. Seems that a coin will make the F2 beep at about 6 inches away in any direction. Steve.

Mebbe u runnin too much sens,, don't need much, i uslly run 1 or 2 bars, n coil real close to soil, and whenpushin button PP'n like all, they will use lots more battery, i usually just X it in stead o PP'n it in, then i raise er up till lose target(some people call it de-tunin), if i get good signal, like dime or cent, loud, and the depth says all black,DEEP, it usually trash, specially if # moves around some, I got bout 20 hours in on this outfit, and like it purty gud :), whenever i get some new tector, it's only thing i use for a month, so I can learn it, after i learn it ,it goes into rotation of use with my other tectors. :)

Is battery life good on the F2? Steve.

seems like when you use that pinpoint button it really pulls the batteries down quick, but seems like i'm gonna get around 30 hr out of this first set of batteries, so not too bad:detecting:

After using my F2 tonight (just got home until I got rained out) I think that it is going to be a keeper. I put in 2 new alkaline batteries and it seemed like the detector was 100 times better, deeper/better pinpoint/etc. The old batteries that it came with were showing 2 bars though & they were quality brand alkaline batteries.

Anyways as I said I am going to more than likely keep the F2 & I just might do a mod that I thought of, well kind of a temporary mod with no soldering, adding or removing components. Now remember if any of you do this remember to send me much $$$ for the idea, lol. I am going to saw/carve whatever a piece of wood or plastic in the shape of a 9 volt battery with 2 metal contacts on the end. I am going to soldier 2 wires off the contacts (one from + one from -) to a battery pack that will hold 6 1.5 volt AA batteries = 9 volts. I will need 2 of this setup one for each battery compartment inside the F2. I am thinking that the weight of 12 AA batteries won't be too bad being that the F2 is so lite. I just got to get a nice battery holder and find a good place to mount it. The F2 would run alot longer on the 12 AA's than it will on 2 nine volts (alot more power at the same voltage). Steve.

You can get em at radio shack, all kinds, and sizes, i did my RC truck to a 8 AA conversion from 6 AA, and made my own rechargeable minelab outfit, just plug in the detector to the wall and forget it till you use it out of a cordless phone charger, can do it to bout anything in bout 1/2 hr :detecting:

Was there another target nearby? [Sensitivity setting & batteries should have nothing to do with it. ]
If not, I'd send it in for a factory check.

Contact one of the sponsors, for example Backwoods or one of the others, they are good and know what theyr'e doing, headphones cost from bout, 20 -25 dollars on up to 170, depends, the expensive have warranty, cost lots more, work better, cheap is ok, no warranty, just depends on how much you want to spend, I'd stay away from E Bay on headphones, might b junk, and not worth fixing, then you are SCREWED. :detecting:

I bought a nice pair at Radio Shack for $20.00. Very nice. Has volumn control on both sides. They are very stylish looking. I paid an optionsl $5
for an extended warrenty. Maybe I didn't need that but for $5 bucks I though, WHY NOT?

Wouldn't be surprised if they are the same kind as I got at Radio Shack about 4 or 5 years ago. Never a minute's problem with them. Steve.

NOT violate warranty, you probably need to send it in for adjustment.: I am not going into details but that isn't going to happpen. Steve.

No I didn't find out yet. It means that if F.T. is as bad to deal with on repairs as they are with helping out on the phone I am not going to send anything to them. It isn't a big deal, if I want good detectors with good support I will continue to buy Tesoro detectors. Steve.

I don't find support very good when you have to call and call and after the 4th. day finally get who ever Dan is from Tech. support department, ask him a question, he has no idea how to answer my question & has to go ask someone else and call me back. His reply was - I can not give out this information it is not for the public.I am not predujiced in any way but he was hard to understand with his accent (it was like calling a Dell tech.support person in India).
