F2 headed my way

Hi Steve here in upstate New York. Been a Tesoro user for years still have a Compadre wanted to try something different so I bought a White's. A nice well made machine but just wasn't my cup of tea so after thinking & thinking I ordered a F2. I had a F4 a couple of summers ago and really liked it, so I figured it's little brother should work well also. From my understanding you either love the F2 or hate it & you get one that works well or doesn't work at all. I am getting a demo from a dealer with full warranty that comes with the extra small coil and extra lower rod so buying a demo it should have been tested enough to see if it is good or not. Will report on my results after I get it & giving it a whirl. Thanks! Steve.

Is there a place where I can download the manual for the F2 in pdf format. Thanks! Steve.

Good luck with the new machine, I love mine. Great target seperation which will do you well in trashy areas. I hunt some pretty trashy sites and even with the 8 inch coil it will seperate the good from the bad. If you notice the numbers and depth bouncing around just turn the sens down one bar at a time until it settles in. I often run it at 5 bars and when I hit some targets I'll lower the sens, pick out some targets then bump up the sens again after the area is a little cleared out to get the deeper targets. Good Luck!
Glenn

Sorry steve..had to edit because the link doesn't work.

Seems sort of odd to me that when you go to Fisher's site they don't have a downloadable manual for the F2. Maybe because it isn't made by Fisher it is made by First Texas. Steve.

I like mine, works good,no problems, when coinshooting i usually run only 1 bar, with 8 or 4 in coil, mine is very hot on quarters, sometimes confuses dimes and corroded zincs, nice detector, good in trash, find lots of coins-all kinds - in the 8 in area, even at 1 bar, HH:detecting:

Wow 8" at one bar that sounds great. Now I am getting really itchy to try it out after reading everyone's reviews, I hunt coins/jewelry in parks/school grounds/etc. never any beach hunting. Thanks for the info on the F2. Steve.

I would think that any detector with a TID can & does confuse dimes & zincs, they are really close in size.

I posted early results using the F2 and still love this detector at trashy sites. This detector is smack down hot on shallow high coin targets mixed in all sorts of trash and will also allow more refined discrimination on midlevel targets using the tones along with VDI. Have used the F2 at hotrock infested areas where the Explorer XS was sounding off on every exposed rock at factory settings and the F2 was quiet until a coin was placed on it and found a number of targets close to rocks that a number of detectors consider hotrocks.I usually run the F2 between 1 to 3 bars Sens at trashy sites with the 4" coil using 0 discrimination and let the tones alert me to possible targets and allow the VDI to help decide what to dig once i learn the trash numbers. I also use a Whites M6 and thought it was the best detector i ever used at trashy sites using the 5"Excelerator coil and now i'm wondering if the F2 may not be better at my sites using the 4" coil .

I haven't really worked the F2 enough to determine it's depth capabilities using the 8" coil but can honestly say the target separation qualities are outstanding using the 4" coil at depths approaching 5" parameters. For the money the F2 is well worth the investment in my opinion. HH Bill

hi bill!
generally what sites do you hunt?.may i ask?..have you hunted sidewalk easements with the 4" coil?..thanks!

hi bugar!
you are getting down 8" on some coins?..if so,that's terrific!.

Hi j.t.

I use the F2 at older trashy parks in areas where older finds aren't too deep but target masking is horrible. Found over 25 wheats , two silver dimes , over $50 of clad and a few artifacts at shallow levels mixed with trash or hidden in rock walls in a very short period of time and now a bit busy to hunt due to work restraints. The F2 i have works Excellent and should do well with the 4" coil and found wheats along sidewalks with imbeded rebar and close to metal chainlink fence and posts. No complaints here for the requied tasks of the F2. HH Bill

thanks bill!..apparently the f2 still gets down 3-5" or more... which is plenty good for silver!..do you swing fast in that environment?..i am gonna go after the easements as it should do well there with the 4" coil on board...great tips!..aprreciated!

That's in the soil around here, yes, e central indiana, sometimes when i run the sens high, just messing around it just seemed too much, so i started messing around with the settings, and depth was the entire length + of my lesche, yes it is a good detector, I have others, up to $1,000.oo detectors, and for coinshooting, this detector will do a fine job :)

I emailed Michael Hillis & also emailed Fisher, I received a copy of the manual from them both. Thanks Mike & Fisher. Steve.

Hi j.t.

For me the F2 with the 4" coil is relegated to the trashiest areas of the trashy sites and usually moving the coil based on the trash density and whatever it takes to have the detector respond to the most individual targets and pick out the audio variance of those desired masked targets and swing speed can vary from slow to moderate for targets at surface to about 5" depth and just go with the flow. Some weaker signals can be enhanced with a few relatively short and quick passes over the target . Not sure if this helps or not. HH Bill

thanks bill!..gotta feeling it's gonna be fun tryin"
