f19 with 5in coil

Although the F19 is not a coin machine it does a good job finding coins. I want to see how it will performs with a 5in coil. So I ordered one. I will let you know how it goes.

I think people have a lot of questions about the F19.. It will be interesting to see what you conclude.

I use the F19 with the 5" coil all the time hunting iron infested Ghost Town sites. I used to use the White's IDX Pro modified by Mr. Bill for those areas but I prefer the F19 or Gold Bug Pro with the 5" or 5"X 9" coil for those areas now. I don't use mine for regular coin hunting. I usually use a White's V3i with a BigFoot coil for that task.

I have a whites m6 which is really my coin machine. But I'm currently 2100 miles from home and I'm detecting a 70's yard to get more familiar with the f19. When I get back to idaho I'll take the f19 relic hunting.

Hello there Garrybk Im from Boise, your missing out on all the snow, about 7 ,8 inches.I hope your F-19 treats you well. HH

Personally, I am not hot on the idea they have touted the F-19 as a "Relic Hunting" detector. It is more-or-less an enhanced Gold Bug Pro/G2 with a better stock coil than the Teknetics for general hunting (the 5X10 DD I prefer to the goofy 11" DD, but that's just me). I like it over the G2's I've had because the F-19 does handle dense iron nails better than the G2 & Gold Bug Pro, especially with the 5" DD coil.

I had one that I worked a few locations with, an old school site, and old church site, and some homesteads, and it did 'OK,' and better than the G2. I am not a Double-D coil guy, preferring a good Concentric coil mounted on a good-working detector. However, since you asked about the 5" DD coil, that is my favorite coil for this model, or the G2. The 'Greek series' 5" coils I have had measured just a bit over 4½" diameter and a bit short of a true 5" measurement, but since FTP/Teknetics didn't offer a smaller-size Concentric coil, I put the 5" DD to work four-and-a-half years ago on my Omega. Results were impressive.

I have continued to enjoy using the 5" DD coil and keep mine on-hand. The stock Omega coil, a 5½X9¾ Concentric, is an okay coil and I like it, but I swapped with a round 8" Concentric off a Delta four years ago and was even more impressed. So my two-coil preference for the Omega (and I usually limit my coil selections to no more than 2 coils for any detector in my arsenal) are the 8" Concentric and 5" DD.

I think you'll like the 5" DD on the F-19, if you hunt trashier sites. Personally, if I would have kept an F-19 in my personal arsenal, it would sport the 5" DD full-time and I'd use the 'stock' coil on occasion, only.

Which search coil do you use on your M6? Do you have the 6½" Concentric (the 5.3 Eclipse) and have you used the M6 and that coil for ghost town and relic hunting? When you get home to Idaho, and I live next door in Oregon, I'd like to get your take on how the F-19 performs in some typical iron, and non-iron, littered relic hunting sites. I'd be pleased if you would work the F-19 w/5" DD and the M6 w/6½" Concentric in a number of old sites, comparing their performance side-by-side on the same targets prior to recovery. Drop me an e-mail, if you'd prefer.

It was reported here that some part of Idaho got several inches of snow out of a recent storm, and I know we ended up with about 3" here. Today the clouds burned off and it ended up totally blue sky and bright sunshine, and we hit a high of 34.0° at 2 PM. Roads are dry and a lot of the snow has started to vanish, but now (6:30 PM) we've had quite a temperature drop to 17.2°. We're supposed to be headed to 14°, but I have a feeling it will get lower than that.

I know a lot of the ground is frozen here so it doesn't look like I'll be getting out for at least a few more weeks, unless folks don't mind a 'crew' to be handling the recovery work. Wintry weather means it's a great time to dive into research, and that's what we are going to do.

I hope your hunk of Idaho is workable.

Hi
I use the 6" self butterfly on the m6. I like it much better than the stock coil. I have used it relic hunting with mixed success. All metal detectors can be fooled by rust. But the f19 seemed to ignore the iron better if set up correctly. The problem is i have a couple sites that I'm not 100% sure of their location. I need to be able search deep for iron so I will know I'm at the right spot. I'm hoping the f19 will do that. Also weight was a consideration. I am 64 and I have had both knees replaced. The sites I am going back to in the spring require a roller coaster 4 wheel drive then a couple mile hike through sagebrush, rocks and weeds.
A couple pounds can make a difference. Winter is coming on fast. It maybe next spring before I can compare the f19 and m6.
