F 75 versus X-terra 70

Today I hunted along a fence that surrounds a baseball field at our local park. I hunted along a high foot traffic area from the fan stands behind home plate and a shed that sells snacks and drins located at the end of the left field outfield. I had hunted the same area two years ago with an X-terra 70. The area has been hunted hard over the years, so prettty much you find clad coins. Being a city park, it always has a renewal of coins. I found a lot of clad coins two years ago with the 70. Today I hunted for two and a half hours with my F-75 and found 51 coins. The totals were 19 quarters, 9 dimes, 17 nickles and 6 pennies for a face value of $6.56. A pretty nice clad coin haul. Here's the interesting part. All the quarters, dimes and pennies, for the most part, were found as surface coins, or in the grass roots. Clearly, these coins were lost in the last two years. The nickles, on the other hand were found one to three inches deep. These coins were obviously NOT lost during the last two years, but had been there much longer. They were mised by the X-70. I liked the X-70. It was a smooth operating machine. But it clearly doesn't have the depth of the F-75, and obviously doesn't get the nickles like the F-75. The f-75 LOVES snicles.

Thanks for looking and keep on diggin',

it just sucks at separation! if a coin is masked, and the machine in question has bad unmasking properties, it dont make a bit of difference HOW deep the coin is. Its simply undetectable with THAT unit. I've hunted with a few Xterras, and the F75 and f70 will spank em every time the the separation dept. (Blows the MXT out of the water too). Like I think I said in a previous post...........WAY to much emphasis is placed on raw depth. Depth IS good, but everything else being equal, separation is MUCH more important. Besides..............how many coins do the average diggers REALLY dig at extreme depths? Most are well within the range of the average machine. (Unless its a REAL old and REAL loose UNDISTURBED and loamy site. ). We dig a lot of woods sites, and often find 150, 200 year old coins nearly on the SURFACE!! on other soft field sites we find em deeper, but thats because the fields have been turned so many times. If coins get as deep as some would have you believe...........WHY do we dig 2000 year old coins in fields in the UK relatively shallow? I thik if one were to play the odds, MOST coins are still at detectable depths, and cant be found because they cant be sorted out by the average machines from the junk. Streak!

I couldn't agree more. I really liked how the X-terra performed. But, I'm finding more with the F-75. The F-75 is more challenging to use because it can be set up soooo sensitive. If you can work it hot, it will pay dividends. Even not so hot, the seperation factor pays off, as well. I wasn't knocking the X-terra. Not everyone can use (ie: put up with) the F-75. I don't think I missed 17nickles with the X-terra because of "user error". Nickles just seem to ring in better with the F-75. I also have an F-2 which likes nickles as well. I hunt for clad coins using the 3H tones, and nickles read like dimes, quarters and copper pennies. I think that is one advantage the F-75 has over many other detectors. Anyway, the X-terra 70 is a fine detector, and there are days I miss the ease in which it operates. Then there are days, like today where the F-75 really kicks a**.

I was just reading the post about junk being mixed in with good targets and the inability of most detectors to spot the good target, so I took my four detectors out to my test garden with a quarter buried at 6 inches with rusted iron nails laid directly on top of it and all of my units picked up the quarter and ignored the rusty nails for some reason, That was a Garret GTI 2500 ,Fisher coinstrike, Minelab eureka Gold , and last but not least my state of the art bounty hunter pioneer 505, must be something wrong with the Xtera 70, it should work like a champ also all of my detectors really seperate the good targets from the trash very well.

Also I was really thinking about the X70 or MXT as my next detector I like the heads up on the X70 performance I just dropped that from my wish list..

Which X-terra coil have you been using to hunt the area? If you've been using the stock 9" 7.5kHz maybe that had something to do with it. I don't own either machine but I think the F75 runs at around 13 kHz which would probably make it hotter on the lower conductors. If you're using one of the higher frequency X-terra DD coils then it looks like the F75 really does like nickels much better. Anyway, that's a lot of nickels for one hunt.

I was using the stock coil. I went back to the same area today and found another dozen nickles with the F-75. Fifty more coins in about two and a half hours. Going back tomorrow, weather permitting.

Could be the minerals, but most probroly its the coil,if he had the stock coil its about 7 khz,in our club we put the xt70 with high khz coil against the f70 and there was no difference in finds, but when we put the stock coil on the xt70 we found more coins with the f70, the xt70 is a great detector with the khz change of each coil, its really a great unit for gold hunting also we have found several small nuggets with it.We also tried it against the f5 and the numbers on the f5 was so jumpy we had a hard time guesing what the target was.The cz's are still the best dual khz 5 and 15 the best of both worlds.I also wanted to ask ya'll a question my buddys control box on his f70 is shaking around on the poll.should he try tighten the box his self or would it void the warranty.

The F75 is a far better detector than the X terra 70. I`ve just bought the ETrac but i wouldn`t sell my F75 .Its a pocket battleship .

I sold my second 75 and bought a XT70 and it is much much better and smoother running machine then the fisher.. It is amazing that people make out how great the 75 is and that's only if you get lucky and get one that actually works and that's usually barely!! They are a inch maybe 2 deeper in a unstable, glitchy mode and trying to gues the target.. You'd be better off with a PI...At least with the XT you can usually tell what the target is.. The 75 is all over the place.. I really don't know why they would even market such a machine..One of the largest waste of money I've spent!! It would be a great detector if they ever get it to work correctly, but I don't see it happening and most have sold or traded theirs like I have..I guess they figured we will let the consumers make up excuses for it!!! If you get a fisher get the F70 as it seems from what I understand just as deep and stabile also.. Better yet buy anything but a fisher since the build quality is some of the worst out there!!! Sorry to butt in, but this still ticks me off!!
