F 75 Upgrade??????

Jim Robertson

Well-known member
What is the upgrade for the F 75? I have had it about a year what does Fisher do to the unit? Thanks for anyones responce.

Jim, I have had my F 75 for 23 months and have not had the upgrade done yet either. The main thing from what I know is done is to put a seal on the screen for making it more moisture proof. Then, things like the grip and battery holders are checked for wear and looseness. Some F 75's had grips that split and battery holder springs that were to loose and didn't make solid contact all the time. They also suggest sending the coil(s) along for them to be checked, as well. Some coils have been replaced for various reasons when being checked. In essence, from what I see posted, Fisher goes over each detector sent in for the upgrade pretty thoroughly and replaces whatever needs to be. Although I am going to have the upgrade done shortly, I have not had the first problem with my F 75 and I 2500 or so hunting hours on it. Hope this helps. HH jim tn

Thanks for the responce I haven't used my F 75 much but I keep seeing upgrade. That's great to know. Thanks again

I was one of the first to get upgraded last year. The first few F-75s upgraded had a gasket installed between the control housing halves and this started cracking. They later changed the design so no gasket is needed, or at least not an externally visible one. That is why I sent mine in again. Like Jim said they also fixed splitting foam handles and battery connections.

some loose/wobbly tid screens that get fixed and some of the tightening knob/nut for the rod connection get replaced as they broke or get stripped when tightening. My screen is a little loose. HH jim tn

Well, I ordered a F 75 yesterday. I am very nervous about my decision, It sounds like a Troy I had. Lightning fast response and a higher frequency. It was great for cleaning up after the fair but I could never get any depth out of it. I hunt mainly for old silver coins but have never found much below 6 inches, If this puppy pulls them out at 7 to 10 inches, I am sure I will find a pocket full. Another thing I am confused about is all the talk about getting used to the unit. Why do they start out with a default setting if it wo'nt find good silver right away. And why didn't they use a freq around 2 K when thats the best silver range. I hope I havn't made a mistake.

Crawdad, you have not made a mistake and the F 75 will easily hit coins at depths past 6" with the factory presets. And, unless you have some unusual ground, I can attest the F 75 will hit coins at depths past 10." Relax and enjoy the F 75...you made an excellent choice. HH jim tn
