F-75:: 5"DD vs 6.5" Elliptical Coils

I have and use both, no problems with stability and ID seems about the same. Depth reading seems to be off on all my coils, the items seem to less than the detector is telling me. So when I take a depth reading I just say not more than what ever the detector says.

The little 6.5 elliptical will not run as deep as the 5" DD but not bad. I have never been able to test it for max depth in the ground but I am getting items at least 5" deep. You will get better ground coverage and is better in the trashy areas. I use this coil most of the time looking for jewelry in the parks. I actually use this coil more than the 5"DD.

So not a lot I can say about the 5"DD, it seems to run a little deeper but again I really haven't tested it. But my next trip out I plan to test it out on some older deeper coins that I have been getting into at about 6 plus inches with the 11" DD coil. The area has a fair amount of trash so the little 5" may be just what the doctor ordered.

As for the 11" DD coil it will do it all but it has trouble in the trash.

6.5 is much better at not hitting on rusty bottle caps..as 6.5 is concentric coil 5" is DD..

Just checkin in on that field trip....any word?....

DD 5"
Had it out twice.
Works very well. I noticed the numbers on depth and vdi changed just a tad.
I did dig a deep dollar-sized object at about 10 inches.
Unfortunately, no deep coins were of opportunity to test depth.
Hit nickels very well.
I was able to creep along places I definitely could not with any of my other coils, and thus the purpose of it is fulfilled.
Only had it out about 3 hours total.

*Dug an 1891 Indian first time out with it. Most notable find so far (soaking in olive oil---covered with encrusted soil/sand).

Overall, so far, it does what it should. No problems. Quite happy with it. No falsing so far on bottlecaps that I could see.
Only advantage I could see using the 6.5" concentric would be to sweep a bit more area.
It is definitely a coil you want to go slow with, so you can hear that short "Toot" of high tone between the trash.

I am probably done testing this and going back to my main coil. I will come back to this baby when I need it---now that I know how it performs (and I know some areas where that will be useful).
But, now time to get back to my regular methods--going to try an area tomorrow evening and see what pops up. Most places I hunt are big spaces.
~~thanks for asking!

I have been thinking on these two coils for my 75 standard too. How do they do as far as reading the same ID numbers that I'm used to seeing already for targets? I have noted that a mid 80s to 90 reading will almost always be a rusted cap. Mid 60s will be the zinc screw on caps and mid 70s are most times aluminum screw ons.

Really dont want have to relearn my number system with a new coil if I can help it.

If this is a non issue then I'm leaning toward the 5"dd, all my silver coins have come in at 7"+. So I wouldn't. Want to give up too much depth.

I don't have huge time in with the 5", but it does the job well.
I got a clad quarter that upaveraged the number a bit more, and a few more penny/dime readings that did the same, but that was a minority.
Now that I think about it I believe there was some iron/rusty soil in that area, and overall it was right in line with what you expect.
Hence, that might have been par for the course.
I was finding nickels with it with ease, and you know how touchy that can be with some detectors. So I don't think much appreciable difference.
I DID NOT FIND any rusty bottlecaps.
I think you would enjoy the coil.
