F-70 BEFOR AND AFTER MY REPAIR AND SOFTWARE UPGRADE NOT GOOD!

I HAD A EARY F-70 LOVED BETTER THAN THE 75 I HAD AS THE POWER LINES DID NOT BOTHER IT IN PARKS LIKE THE 75 GETS AS I HAD ONE OF THEM FOR 7 MO TOO, ANYWAY HERE IS WHAT HAPPENED TO MINE, WHEN I FIRST GOT IT I DUG A IH AT 14 INCHES, THEM THE LCD WHENT BAD SENT TO FISHER/FT FOR REPAIR THEY REPLACED THELCD DISPLAY AND UPGRADED THE SOFTWARE, NOW I HAD IT !!! IT POPS AN ALL THE JUNK, AND I BELIVE I AM NOT GETTING ANY DEPTH A ALL TO SPEAK OF, IT ACTS JUST LIKE THE SOFTWARE UP GRADE WAS NOTHING ONLY TO INSTALL THE 75 SOFTWARE AS IT ACTS JUST LIKE THAT ONE DID, I HATE IT NOW AND WILL PROBLLY SELL IT AND GO BACK TO A F4 AS THAT DOSE BETTER NOW THATS NY 2 CENTS ON IT ANYONE OUT THERE HAVE THIER F70 UPGRADED AND WHATS YOUR TAKE ON YOURS DOSE IT ACT DIFFERENT THAN IT DID BEFOR? OR WHAT?? DENNIS IN NY
 
If I were you I would contact Bobbie and see if the problem can be corrected. It is too good a detector to give up on.....Jack

I can relate to what you are saying.

IMO, the folks that notice all the changes and are not happy with them are the ones that have learned the F70 well and USED the F70 the longest before the upgrade and definitely KNOW how it was.

Get hold of Fisher and tell them your problem, too much money to spend on something that is not as good as it used to be, especially after an upgrade. My F70 will find dimes at 8" will no problem, bought it new after the upgrade. Does yours light up the bar over the iron icon and 50 cent icon when you start it up? Mine only lights up the iron icon, don't know if that would make a difference. Good luck, John
 
The deal with the bars does not apply to all F70 units. Good to see that Fisher is looking in on this Forum. I am sure that they will get it taking care of. I sure do enjoy my Fisher F 70. Quick, easy and Light

WHEN I GOT BACK WITH MY F70, I QUTE(* WE FOUND YOUR F70 IN NEED OF REPAIR AND UP GRADE NEXT IT SAYS WE HAVE TESTED YOUR F70 AN D WE FIND IT TO BE IN PERFECT WORKING ORDER???
IF 5"S IS WHAT THEY CALL PERFECT WORKING ORDER , THEN THEY ARE PUTTING OUT JUNK AS I HA D FISHERS IN THE 70'S THAT COST HAFE THIS MUTCH OR LESS THAT WOULD GO MUTCH DEEPER ! THINK ABOUT THAT! DENNIS IN NY

tone 3h best i can get is 5" on a 25 centin ground and in air! also if i try to put the unit back to default setting by holdin the fast grab and menu buttons and turn it on it dosent work ijust says back to back ff and it should come up with88 and reset all my settings to factory settings it dose not dennis in ny

First off, I took some pics of how I end up having to hold the F70 to perform the factory reset.

When resetting the F70 be sure to be holding the two buttons even after you power the unit back on, THEN release the two. You SHOULD see the 88 in the center of the window.


Okay, Because you were VERY accustomed to the F70 before the upgrade, and I was too, there were imo several areas that may have been corrected or enhanced aside from just iron memory we sent it in for. The F70 requires it to be set differently than we were used to. Used to be is the main idea here. It can still get the depth but it needs to be set up differently than WE remember it. I will get to those in a moment. First I want to provide you the comparison results which are close actually.

Having my F70 set as yours, I can get 7 inches on a qtr in an air test.

IF I remove all the disc I can get 8 inches.

IF I reduce the sens to 20 and use MAX disc as basically you were using, I can get 6.5 inches on a qtr. More sens isnt always better. There is a point of no return at times. You may end up getting more noise or jumpy #s but not any increased sensitivity to the targets. What I do is turn the sens up till I do not get any more depth capability and pretty much leave it there.

Speed Options DE and SL

I think and have a hunch, but of course cant prove it now, I THINK the speed was reversed or changed on the upgrade from what we had. There is a chance we were always running SL mode even while we were in DE. This is one of the changes that may have occurred.

For example:

At a sens of 20 if I switch to SL, the qtr can now be detected out to 9+ inches. (with the speed setting of DE I could get the qtr at 6.5)

At a sens of 65, it can now be gotten at 13.5-14 inches.

I know the sensitivity range has been changed. I for one had made suggestions to have it changed. The way it was before the upgrade, a sens of 5 was giving me about 11 inches of air test on a qtr. Now, it is significantly less and the F70 is now usable in more trashy areas. We will NOW have to turn the sens HIGHER than we did before the upgrade BUT the sens is still there, just needs a higher number is all.

Tones:

Seems to me, 3f gives me 1.5 inches MORE depth over 2f. Check and see what yours does. I have had different folks here confirm this just in case my hearing was the culprit. I tend to use 3f or 4f.

Try the above suggestions and see if the unit is close to mine. The folks that didnt get accustomed to the pre-updated F70 arent struggling and the Reason is, they never got used to their unit the way it was. There are only a couple of us that have to re-learn how to set the F70 to get it back to where it was and how we remember it.

and I'm not saying this to defend FRL or anyone else. I've had more different brand and model detectors than I care to admit and I can tell you I've had the same situation occur from ALL of the manufacturers (minus one and that coincidently was the one that I'd bought the least number of their detectors) at least once where I sent a unit in and it came back either not repaired and or even worse. HOWEVER, every one of them always got to the bottom of the problem and made the unit perform correctly after another try. All of them always (rightly so) covered the inbound freight bill on the subsequent visit. Of course no one likes to endure that inconvenience but I'm here to tell you it does occasionally rarely happen. It looks like Bobby has offered to do just what I've mentioned and if I may be so bold, I'd suggest you take her up on it asap and enjoy the detector that you bought in the manner for which it was designed. :)
 
hi tony, thank you yes your factory rest works on mine and i have tryed your settigs and i still get only get 5 " on a 25 cent what i don't understand is why fisher/ft did not say something in bobbie's letter that the detector would have to be set up different after the upgrade ,no they just let people get really po, thinking the f70 dose not work, how ever i still only get 5" max thanks dennis in ny
