F-5 or Gold Bug II

Need help, Yes I am a new bee. I was wondering what unit to purchase the F-5 or the Gold Bug II. I no the gold bug is for gold hunting. but I have read that with a larger search coil you can use it for coin shooting also. I would like to do both. Any feed back would be appreciated.
Thanks

I'm still learning the F5, but I'll have to say its becoming my go to coin shooter, park machine. Fast retune, easy operation(no menus), great tones, easy GB. Just a fun machine. Its easy to learn not to advanced for a newbie, but enough machine that you'll probably stick with it for quite a while. Still using the Vaq for relics and beach(runs smoother).

While the Bug II 'may' hit coins slightly better with the larger coil it is a very poor choice for coin hunting due to it's extreme sensitivity to tiny targets and lack of discrimination ability.

You should hold out for the new Gold Bug due sometime this spring. It has been designed from the ground up as a dual purpose Nugget and Coin/Relic detector.

What you may want to get is the new gold bug for about $499.00 it may prove to be a good relic hunter, time will tell but I would not get the gold bug 2 for coins I would rather see you get the fisher CZ3 or F75... I had the F5 but it was not as deep as the CZ it was a lot faster which does help in trash areas and had the DD...but what ever you get you can't go wrong with a fisher. The F5 is prone to EMI that is why I use the CZ3 as my back up to the LTD when I am in the city and my machine freaks out.

Low-Boy, does your F5 have the 61 or 62 software?

I was having EMI issues with mine, it was tested at First Texas' office and Dave Johnson actually told me it was the worst they had ever seen on an F5.

Since the chattering went away when I swung the coil, I had adapted to it. And got used to taking my headphones off when I retrieved a target.

But then I got away from the city to a ghost town and realized how smooth and enjoyable the F5 was without the EMI in the air.

So I sent it to FT for repair. I know they basically replaced the whole electronics so I don't know how much of the major improvement in my unit was software related, but I now have the newer 62 software and it's reputed to be less prone to EMI than the 61 version.

You probably know this already, but if you don't, hold down the pinpoint button when you turn the machine on and the software number will briefly flash on the screen.
