Extension for headphone wire

BigTony

Well-known member
I know they make extension wire that plug in for music, male plug with a female plug at the end of one foot wire. This gives you more of a lead - they use it mostly with guitars.
I Haven't been able to find one for metal detecotors.
If not can anyone show me the how to and where to purchase parts?
Thanks Tony

most guitar etc leads are mono , guessing you want stereo I have found male ends good but finding a good female end not so easy might be better off making a longer cord from the headphones.

depends on how long you want the lead?

Amberjack, I knew you would respond, thanks in advance.
The Calrad's that I install the new speakers on have a short wire. So I was being lazy and trying to get another foot or so from a already made set up.
I don't know how much to add on, 18 inches might be enough.
I can't figure out why they don't make those for MD headphones.

have you seen this thread Tony? http://www.findmall.com/read.php?22,2262964

think you can get a good curly cord off ebay solder in to headphones and put a male plug on just search for curly cord and have a read on that thread, see how you get on?

let us know how you go?

AJ

If we can't post a link to where it's available ......... then look for "1/4-Inch Stereo Headphone Extension Cord 25 feet Coiled"

Something to think about.
Any good stereo store that dose installing should be able to make one up to any length.
I made a extentions for my unit. The one I made plugs in my unit and then runs to the back of my armrest and mounted a female plug there , doing this my headphone coard goes down my back and plugs in at the back end of my armrest and is comfterable and out of the way.
Also a Ham operator should be able to make one up.

BigTony, I made a 90* bracket that mounts to the bolt on the underside of the rear of the arm rest and the female plug is mounted threw it pointing to the rear and I did one thing else different with it , I plugged a 90+ 1/4" ( male/femail plug that plugs into it then plugged the headphone into that. The 90* that swivels from side to side and that way it seams to help. I gave one of thes setups to a detecting friend and he loves it , i tried to get it back from him , he said no way. With it it also gives you more flexibility when digging.
Which I could do pictures here but I can't figure out how to get a picture from my iPad to here.
I can do pictures by email though.
All parts are available from RadioShack or a stereo store. You just have to make the bracket and solder three wires. I used a straight coard because a coil coard would be a tangled mess.
Hope this helps
