I like some opinion of the XS as compared to the
older Whites Spectrum for coin hunting? Observations, Likes & Dislikes? I serously thinking of buying a XS and need some guidance!
Thanks in advance to all

First off, let me say i myself am relatively new to the explorer. Bottom line is the Explorer is a fantastic machine!! Incredible depth, accurate id (with the exception of deep rusty nails, often are confusing for newbies as they can register in the coin area) Much improved construction, thay are sturdy and evoke confidence in general when your in the field. Too many personalized settings to mention, suffice to say u can tweak just about everything on it! My only real dislike is its weight, it can get heavy after awhile and switching arms relieves the strain easily enuff.
THE MOST IMPORTANT THING ABOUT THE EXPLORER IS ITS USER!! Dont buy it if your not willing to take the time and have the patience to learn its features and its crazy sounds!! Eventually those crazy sounds will become like hearing your native language and you'll be digging up old coins an a daily basis!! Get a probe if u do get one, the learning curve gets faster the more targets u dig.
Ive had the machine in the field a total of 10-15 hours now, yesterday i dug up a 1904 canadian large cent!! in a park thats been hunted to death.
Once again, as long as you don't live in my town id urge you buy it, this towns only big enuff for one explorer right now <IMG SRC="/forums/images/wink.gif" BORDER=0 ALT=";)">

Yes the DFX or XLT is easier to learn, but when it comes to depth and its ability to discern different targets the XS rules supreme.
Yes the DFX & XLTs are easier to pinpoint with initially but after you get used to the XS its a breeze.
Get the Explorer but promise yourself your going to be patient and learn what its telling you and I guarentee you will not regret it!

Hi Mr. Bill,
If you get one start out with an 8" coil to learn it. I've also read the Sunray X12 coil is very smooth running and you won't be using the stock much.
Start in Ferrous mode so iron will have a low tone.
I've used mine 3 times and I'm getting a feel for it.
Rick
