I had the day off to get some things done around the house & then fight city hall I managed to squeeze in a good hour to explore a mill site that goes back to the early 1800's.......
First we travel down a hill & down this path....."The path less traveled"

Soon the path takes a turn & this is what is seen. Poking up out of the underbrush & along the stream are the remains of the original mill complex. [attachment 28798 Dmill2.jpg]
Here it is as I get closer....The mill was very active for hundreds of years & many of the gears etc, remain just as they were abandoned. LIke going back in time almost....

The mill had several addtions over the years. The earliest foundations still visable were made out of stone. The land owner told us that the smaller stone foundation I thought was a barn was supposedly the company store :O

I have hunted this place with my dad since I moved here from S.C. & always remembered how trashy it is. It's constant overload signals everywhere having been used for so long. I thought it would be a good place to test out the Sun Ray 5.5" coil...
There were holes visable from other detectorists & I got lots of overloads. I turned the Edge disc up to +17 to just dig coins & high tones. My first good find on the bank behind the "store" was a coin. I was hoping it was a nice indian head, but it turned out to be a 1919 wheatie which was when the mills days were winding down....[attachment 28803 Dmill5.jpg]
The finds are nothing special this time, but I thought everyone would like to see photo's of the site more than what was found. The site really is cool & this post is sorta my ode to JL riding off into the sunset
I only messed around for an hour & found a bottle opener, a couple what's it's, and the 1919 wheat....

hope you liked the pictures.
