For those who have bought XS2 how is it compared to the XS.. Many of us are curious..any input

Im finding stuff with the EX II, but then again I found stuff with the Ex I sorry havent used mine enough to see much difference except in the things we already know about

The Explorer II seems more solid when swinging. I don't have a lot of time in with it yet.

I do not have much time on mine yet. It seems to be maybe a little more stable. I like the double digital read out. I never used the digital on my XS. On this one I am going back and forth trying to get the numbers in my mind. Sorry I can not help more, but time will tell. I did find a silver dime the first time out in a spot I had hunted with my XS and DFX. Only have about four to six hour use time.

Tried mine on Saturday for a few hours and I notice i was getting some of the rusty bottle caps up on the right side almost to where the silver dollar will read.
When switching back from the smartfind to digital and getting a reading is still is a bit slow, but is faster than the XS. The depth meter to me was not very accruate as everything that was surface to 3 inches showed half bar (6 inches). Still got a lot of rusty nails, but did see a lot of good hits the first few swings of the coil, but then they did start changing tones and nulling out which were trash. Did get a 1943 steel penny that was questionable, so I dug it and it is rusted bad.
Like the headphone jack and to change battery you have to pull out the headphones jack. Battery usage was better I think too as in the 4 hours it still was only down a little compared to my XS.
Minelab still could up the volume a bit for us relics that are hard of hearing.
Need more time to us it, but thought it makes more noise than the XS, maybe it is more sensitive and picking up more as I notice less nulling and more tones.

Peter, here's what I've found out so far between the two. Our local soil is sandy mixed with black dirt when you can find some that has'nt been filled with red clay and sand. What I've really noticed is that the EX 2 seems to run it's best and with extreme depth when the sensitivity is set on manual and set to where the threshold is just starting to break up in clean ground. It surely is a more sensitive machine than my XS and will seperate targets quicker and with cleaner sound. The software is probaly the key ingredient here, I'm still hunting by sound only but often compare the digital readouts to the X hair target and more often than not the they are usually both dead on and quicker. The ability to fine tune the threshold when using qualty headphones makes a big difference to me because I can turn it down several notches lower than the XS and still hear it at a very low tone. And ... I'm sure that I have missed a few of the almost silent targets with the XS for that reason alone.
The battery is an improvement, it stays up longer and the machine doesnt show any signs of performance loss when it comes down to the 1/2 mark, but thats 5 plus hours of dectecting and good enough for me. I've been running the Joey coil mostly and it's light weight makes for a nice day of detecting without any loss of performance that I can see. The bottom shaft is sturdy and the top shaft feels very solid when put together, no wobbly stuff whatsoever !!
I found a very worn out Barber dime that was sitting underneath a large cast iron ring at 11 inches with allot of rust leaching in the soil around the dime .. I could hear the dime at almost every angle I tried it before I dug it up. Pretty good seperation in my opinion
Hope this helps .. H.H.

Thanks for the input guys. its been a real help. not that i can race out yet and get one... im still lookin to see how everyone here finds the new machine. Ill probably wait til christmas when the specials come and thatll give me time to save. So far it looks interesting.. Any input with the double number system, is that a feature that everyone will be using or will they stick with the tones. I wish Minelab would have included a feature to be able to upload software corrections and improvements like on my Garmin GPS. That will be a kewl feature i think incase they make some good improvements cause we all know that things can be inproved. Ill email them with that idea maybe. Keep up the good work. Im saving to get a coiltek 10" coil in the next few weeks they seem to be the way to go.
