Explorer xs

Hi there I picked up a explorer xs. I originally just bought it because it has a x1 probe on it and was going to use it for my etrac. But now it seems to good of a machine to piece out. The only problem is the speaker is low. The headphones are fully loud. It's not really a issue as I always hunt with headphones. Is there a simple fix or just don't worry about it.
Thanks

Don't risk anything, the XS is a beast, compare it to your etrac before you decide to mess with it if at all. Compare it on deep silver and get back to us. :twodetecting:

Sweet detector i also have one as far as speaker i wouldnt mess with it if you use head phones why bother as long as it is working for you.

Thanks thats what I kinda thought but thought maybe it was just a dirty contact or something simple

Hey good deal.
I'm still swinging my XS and don't have any plans to get rid of it.
The speaker on mine has never been that loud. Not sure what your defination of low is. So low that you have to put your ear on it to hear anything? Or just low so that it's not bothering people around you if you have headphones off?
Four screws on the back of the screen box will allow you to take the face off. The electronics are attached to the screen side of the box. Just let it lean open at the top and you will see how short the wires are. You'll also see the connector for the speaker on one of the controller boards.
It's possible that the speaker has collected a bunch of small metalic particles in the center where the magnet is. Cell phones do the same thing if you keep it in your pocket instead of a case.
The speaker is glued in place so if it's damaged for some reason you will have to use a hot knife to free it from it's containment.
When you reassemble the face back to the box with the four screws make sure the face cover is all the way attached. Might want to take a few pics before opening.
On mine when I put it back together I hold the face firmly against the box and tighten the screws until they stop and no further.
If you're not mechanically inclined then I'd suggest you leave it alone. IMHO.

Thanks for the input it's just hearable in a quiet room from about a foot away. I think I will just leave it alone. Me and small wires don't mix to well. Will give the xs a couple hunts to see if I like it. I thought maybe my daughter would use it but it's to heavy for a her.

That does seem quiet, you've got a great detector though, between an etrac and an XS, I'd much rather have an XS!

Thanks would you put a 6x8 coil on it I was thinking it might be a good park machine that way or would you stick with the factory coil
Cheers

I haven't used the 6x8, smallest coil I've used was the 10x5.5 joey (seemed incosistent to me), in moderate trash the stock coils work well, so does the 15" WOT. The XS likes a slower swing speed than latter FBS machines, but that's a good thing.

Thanks I will give it a honest try with the stock coil and see how it goes
