Explorer XS Zinc Discrimination ?

Hello,

I am just starting out with the XS and still learning the machine, my question is can you discriminate out just zinc pennies in the smart find. I am digging way to my zincs at the beach and would like to prolong my hours swinging at beach by not digging zincs all day long.

Any feed back is greatly appreciated and happy hunting to you all:)

Do you look at the crosshair position when you are over one? The problem with discriminating them out is the obvious of missing some good targets. Zincs have a sound of their own. I am sure that a zinc also gets corroded pretty quick from the saltwater. A corroded zinc has a terrible sound to it and you can just tell its corroded.

Sorry but my advice is to just learn where they hit and learn the sound they make.

I use an XS and my experience tells me they hit in virtually the same crosshair location as an Indian cent. I can usually tell by sound if I have an Indian or not. If you have a test garden, bury both an Indian and zincoln and listen carefully and watch your crosshair position. I probably dig 200 Indians for every zinc penny.

Good luck and HH!

Like VA Max..... ill tell you on a beach you dig everything except iron or a shallow bottle cap. Deep targets you just dig it all...... even gum wrappers you at least kick the sand to see if its shallow foil. Stop digging those pennies and someone is going to get the LARGE class ring you missed. Max did a test on his SE and found if he used a narrow disc on pennies he might still miss some of the large gold rings..... those are your payday baby. Honestly.... how long does it take to dig a scoop and kick the sand? I know Andy showed the advantage of disc targets on the beach..... but his key thought is TIME....very limited time. Everyone hunts different and everyones time out there isnt the same. There is no machine or magic pattern to just get the gold.... but i can tell you if you disc to much you WONT be getting it.
