Explorer XS user buys golden u-max

Well-known member
I bought this machine for the high trash areas I hunt. I love this machine for this purpose as I've been using it for about a month. It is a coin finding son of a gun.I'm just wondering if anyone could give me some advice on using the notch discrimination to maximize the possibilities of finding gold rings as I have dug tons of pull tabs here in Chicago. Any help from the Tesoro users would be Greatly appreciated. Thanks a million!!! and may the treasure Gods smile upon you... Happy T H'ing

Set your notch with the coil over a pulltab ( like the ones you find most ) and set it to where it just barely starts to reject the tab. It will make a different sound, one you'll recognize the next time you pass over one.

If and when I find a gold ring using your tips I'll let you know
as I've yet to find any gold rings or chains as I have dug hundreds
of pull tabs with my minelab XS... THANKS AGAIN!!!
Jimmy

Rings are scarce but they are out there and they will come soon. If you don't hunt any beaches or swimming areas soccer fields or football fields are great places to pick up rings.

set it where it accepts a cigarette pack & nickels you will find many rings fall along with foil , small bits of foil will sound chattery but a gold ring will have a good repeatable signal.
this works for me good hunting... & p.s my next unit will be a golden umax ... anyone have 1 they dont want?
these were just found with my agua compadre:super:

Re Tesoro users: I own a Tesoro Silver sabre u-max detector (I bought this brand new in 2001,6 yrs. old now.) This Tesoro is a audio tone machine (no target id display). I've found gold twice in 6 years. Once a woman lost her 24 kt. gold ring, and I found it by putting my discrimination around 3 or 4 setting (low discrimination setting) and I put my sensitivity at 7 or 8 (setting sensitivity too high on my Tesoro, makes it chatter!). The other time I found gold was: a 14 kt. gold cross (discrimination @ 7 or 8,and sensitivity @ 7 or 8. Gold rings, jewelrly varies widely among discrimination settings, depending on if it is a man's gold ring,or a woman's gold ring, cross, necklace, bracelet. I have audio tones on my detector,to find gold,I've heard you have to dig all low (faint ) tones and trashy tones (chirp sounds, like pull-tabs,bottlecaps,cans,etc.) if you turn your discrimination too high,or turn your sensitivity too high you'll lose a lot of nickels (even Bufflao nickels, gold rings, jewelrly, etc.) silver jewelry most of the times will still be heard at high discrimination ( 7 or 8 setting). You basically have to do a test in your yard with nickels, pulltabs, bottlecaps, jewelry, etc.and also do a lot of experimenting on your own. They don't make my tesoro silver sabre u-max anymore,I think It was replaced by the Tesoro silver u-max. Try the Tesoro silver u-max,it only costs about $240 new, with a lifetime warranty too! Tesoro's have always been proven to out perform other detectors in trashy, iron infested areas! Hope this helps!
