Explorer XS has lost it's way!

I am a new Minelab user and have having some problems with my new machine. Sometimes while conducting air testing, I will loose the curser but still have an audio response to targets. If I wait several minutes or chance screens the curser will usually come back. I have also had the machine locking up in the field and while trying to set up custom programs. After several minutes it will shut it's self off but I have the same problem when trying to resume the programing. I disconnected the coil and took the battery out overnight and it seems ok now. Are these common bugs or do I need to send it in for repairs already?
I am also having a hard time with pin pointing and the depth gauge does not seem to be very accurate especially on shallow targets.

If it seems OK now, then keep it until it does something wrong that seems permanent. My Explorer has done a few odd things, too. One time I found a dime & cursor was nowhere on screen. Another time the detector was going through various set up screens when I never pushed menu! About pinpointing, the way I do it is when I go to pinpoint, I pull the detector coil towards me until the tone stops, then push it forward until I get the tone again. Then the target is under the front of the label. Or if you pull the coil towards you until the tone stops, then it should be about near the front of the coil. Or you can locate the coin & do very short left and right swings until over approximate location, then turn coil 90 degrees without lifting it off the ground, then do the very short left & right swings & target should be near center of coil.
