Explorer XS and headphones

I bought a used pair of Gray Ghost original headphones. I can't get them to work on the Explorer. Doesn't matter if I use the SunRay stand or a 1/4 to 1/8 adapter. Either way I get no sound at all. Then I put the Gray Ghosts on a Whites Coinmaster and they work great.
So I'm stuck using some Koss phones on the XS.
Is it normal for Gray Ghost originals to not work on the XS?

but heres some info from sunrays site
The Sun Ray Explorer Detector Stand incorporates a 1/8" gold-coated plug which plugs into the Explorer headphone jack allowing you to plug your favorite headphones directly into the 1/4" jack located at the rear left side of the stand. (Note: Most headphones are compatible with the Explorer XS & S. However, a few are not. Shadow, White's K/W Koss & Garrett are not. Gray Ghost, Jolly Rogers, Black Magic, Timberwolf, Calrad, Fisher, Acusound, Koss and most others are compatible.)

I have the Gray Ghost NDT headphones. I have to flip the switch when switching them between the Explorer and the White's DFX. I do not know about your headphones, but I know some of them have a switch inside, one the NDT set it is on the outside. The Explorer uses mono headphones.

Your Gray Ghosts should work fine - I also found that the Jimmy Sierra headphones (which worked great on my Whites XLT and still work great on my Fisher Gold Bug 2) do not work on my XS. Today I purchased a set of Nuggetbusters - basically the same thing as Grayghosts (I also tried the Gray Ghosts and they worked fine on the XS), with a speaker better suited for nugget hunting to use with my Explore XS. I purchased the Nuggetbusters because I liked the way they sounded and they fit me better than the Ghosts. Both, however worked fine on the XS as long as the stereo/Mono switch was in the stereo position. The Fishers were superior to both the Gray Ghosts and the Nuggetbusters in volume production, but very uncomfortable to wear for more than a few minutes due to them being very tight. Your Gray Ghosts should work fine or they may be defective. Good luck.

If it has one. I have a pair of NDTs and they have a switch that changes the wiring from putting the speakers in series, used by minelab, or normal configuration that is used by most audio equipment and many other brands of detectors.

Switch the toggle switch and if that dont work you have a broken wire in the cord and needs to be sent in for repair. It will work on the Whites and not the Minelab if this wire is broke. i have had several set of Gray Ghost and Timberwolfs that this has happened too. Just send them in to get repaired.

I thought the switch was a mute switch! Apparently in one position there is a broken connection. I kind of like the "mute" feature though, to quiet the detector when I dig, so maybe I won't fix them. Just wish I could use them on the XS.
It sucks because I bought these phones from a guy on these forums and they came that way. He said they worked fine.

Might have worked find on the Whites or other detectors, but not the Minelabs. I have both the Gray Ghost and Timberwolfs work on my Tesoso and not my Minelabs and one would work on the Minelab and not the Whites and both were broken wires in the cord that was the problem. Sent them in to be repaired and work find when they came back.
